We got Flipped

The guy who owns the Sabres (a Penn State alum) gave Penn State $88 million for a new hockey arena. And we have trouble raising money for an IPF.
He also saved Penn State from having to go through another coaching search by throwing a bunch of cash at O'Brien at the last minute.

Pegula needs to spend less of his time and energy on Penn State and more into not being such a terrible NHL team owner.

Make that 2 flips.

Unfortunately blowouts don't spell opportunity to someone who likes winning no matter how hard you spin it. If we went 6-6 and kept games other than Clemson and Fl State close that would do the trick with MacDonald doing his thing...but no one wants to look silly on TV because the coaches can't figure out how to utilize the talent they have in place.

I guess Alin Edouard wants to lose and look silly on TV then, considering he committed after the G Tech debacle. Because we all know that recruits only make decisions on what schools they want to attend based on winning and losing.

Rivals has our class at 57, not great but as low as its been in a while.

Obviously there are some counter examples and OBVIOUSLY winning percentage is not the only thing these guys are looking for - it's fit, comfort level, location, playing time, perceived coaching ability etc. But no one wants to be on the team that gets blown out consistently. With Marrone you never saw that , and I knocked him for being a jerk with how he left and for being a bad recruiter, but if he had a MacDonald the past 3 years or so he would have some great classes because they could sell momentum and the ACC. When you are getting blown out it's a tougher sell is all I am saying. Great to be the no. 1 wide receiver on a team and start all four years to get national exposure--but if the offensive line can't give the quarterback time to throw it to you, or if the quarterback can't hit the broad side of a barn then you don't get much out of the opportunity. Not saying that is the situation here, we have a talent upgrade coming at key positions -- but just saying you couldn't blame some recruits for that sort of perception. Losing is ok, blowouts not so much. I am an eternal optimist - but the way we have been losing makes me think things are worse than our record indicates - really hope I am wrong.

I agree that you don't want to be a team that gets blown out consistently - believe me I'm right there with you.

But Edouard's commit and the 2 decommits really didn't have that much to do with on field performance. Cabinda had a ton of pressure on him to go to PSU based on where he's from, his high school coaching staff, etc - it's a PSU area. Without that offer, I think he stays SU. That offer changed everything. And it didn't help that he grew up a PSU fan either. Beau's dad played at Wisconsin and he grew up a Wisconsin fan. Those two were really a case of two kids that committed thinking their dream schools would never offer and then suddenly they did and it changed everything. We usually run into this in Florida, sweating out the potential FSU or Miami offer, but this is something that's going to happen more often now with the recruiting cycle speeding up so much. We've been down a long time and unfortunately a lot of kids did not grow up SU fans recently outside of CNY.

I don't like losing recruits but if these schools were the kids #1, then they have to do what's best for them. SS mentioned the "Chip on the shoulder" type players and to me that would have been both of these guys because they were not going to their number 1 choice. It's going to be hard fending off FSU/Miami if they offer our Florida kids as well and that's why McDonald gets paid the big bucks to A: Verbal recruits and B: Get them to sign.
