We have the 3rd most upset tournament wins

What is defining upset. Beating the favorite or beating the higher seeds. Im sure there have been times we were a 9 seed or 10 seed and still considered the favorite

This is kinda cool, but I would rather be seeded high enough that we don't get that many chances to pull upsets.

BTW, I believe 3 of those wins came in 2003 when we won the BiG 12 on our way to the NC.
Great point. At first, I thought wow, that's impressive. However, there is a reason you don't see a team like Duke, Kansas, or UNC on that list.

Good stat.
I'd like to see the reverse stats. i.e. Most losses by the favoured team...I'm guessing we may see some different shades of the blue bloods ...lol
I think we might have a spot on that list as well.

Butler probably got 10 of those 11 in the 2 years they made their FF runs.

Brad Stevens ain’t walking back thru that door.

So - where’s Georgetown? :p

Neither is Chris Holtmann

I mean, the top two teams on that list are no slouches. In their past 10 tournament appearances, MSU has been a top-4 seed 6 times and Villanova 7 times. I don't really think it's an indictment of a program to be on that list.

Teams that have been underdogs more often obviously have had more chances to pull off the upsets. Therefore, maybe a more useful stat would be winning percentage as an underdog. That would be more telling.

I agree.

Probably the biggest reason Michigan St is on the list is because of there round of 16 and round of 8 performance as a 2/3/4 seed in the past 20 years is not rivalled by any team.

Roy Williams has never lost in the first round. I know he's been a high seed most of the time, but the fact he's avoided the dreaded first round upset is very impressive.

I actually wonder if this is the year that happens

unless you win as a 3 or more seed dog its not really an upset.. a 2 beating a 1 is not a big deal in the final 4, a 5 beating a 4 is not a big deal in rd 2..

first rounds are all upsets once you get past the 8-9 game.

Ya know, it's actually possible that we can tie MSU over the next few weeks...

...So - where’s Georgetown? :p
You have to make the tournament to pull an upset.

But where are they this year?
Waiting to get trounced by FSU if Colorado doesn't get it done.
