we should go full air raid

why do they not fit the air raid?
Do I really need to explain football to you?

If SU wants to run an air raid we need to find a Ryan Nassib every 3 years. That doesn't exist. And we also need to find at least one decent WR every year so we have 3+ decent WRs to throw to. That hasn't happened.

Why do you think the air raid is mainly a B12 O? If it is so easy to run why isn't it played everywhere?

last night we avg'd 3 yds per att and 7 yards per completion (state's numbers 13 and18) i listened and haven't seen the video yet but stats say shredder was sacked 5 times on 21 att's and i got the sense he was pressured a lot more. we got the legs but we lack the balance to use them.

I wanted babers over all the other candidates and it became a joke about leach but I still prefer the old fashioned air raid.

we are 119th in passer rating
last year 119th
63rd in 2019 (big asterisk about any passer rating with devito taking terrible sacks instead of an incompletion that would hurt his passer rating)
77th in 18
104th in 17
50th in 16

it continues to be so stupid that the only real program with a dome can't find anyone to throw in it

kent state was 2nd last year
19th the year before that

what does roy wittke think about all this?
Can't get the speed here to wake it work.

Dino’s problem from day one is he and his staff can’t recruit. I‘ve harped on it for years and everyone says we find all these underrated players. The recruiting rankings are accurate and we will continue to be at the bottom of the league in recruiting and in the standings. After six years Dino still hasn‘t recruited an ACC level quarterback. You can’t compete in this league without a great quarterback, not just good. Just look around at the talent of quarterbacks in this league. Shrader can’t throw accurately ten yards down the field. It’s an embarrassment. The only two teams with maybe less talent at quarterback are Duke and GT and Duke keeps out recruiting us for quarterbacks. Six years have shown Dino can’t get the job done. I really like the guy and what he stands for, but he can’t be the coach at SU anymore. What really bothers me is that I’m not going to go through another five year building plan. We are kidding ourselves if we think Wildhack will bring in anyone who might win more than two ACC games a year. No one in their right mind wants to coach here. The talent level is just not here.

Isn't the air raid dying in CFB? I think Leach (ironically) is the only P5 coach that still runs it and has had moderate success with it recently.

we all know now he can't game manage coach a lick . but you would think that mr. winning "family guy" personality would kill it with the parents on the recruiting trail. that ain't happening either. perhaps they invite him to dinner and he shows up late becuz he'd doesn't understand clocks ?

Yes, please explain to me.

Marrone couldn’t recruit, Shafer couldn’t recruit, now Babers can’t either. See a pattern, sooner or later it’s what you are trying to sell more than the salesman

It isn't run everywhere because there are serious defensive tradeoffs involved with running such a pass heavy offense exclusively in practice. The tradeoffs might not be worth it for schools that can recruit better. We are so consistently terrible at passing that it's worth whatever it takes to develop passers.

BTW I am not advocating Marrone 2010, Addazio BC, or option football. I think we should be running an O similar to 2013. Then when we do have the pieces, like 2012.

In 2013 we passed the ball 31.2 times per game. With better pieces in 2019 we threw it 34 times per game. I don't think we will ever have the pieces to be throwing it 45 times a game year in and year out.

Shafer recruited the best QB we have had in years and many of the key players dino had during his first 3 years

Nassib ended up solid but geez, if that's not attainable...

Ground and pound option football with hopefully, a QB that can throw a forward pass. Thats the sweet spot.

Addazio's QB recruiting gem is starting at Oregon BTW.

It has been such an abysmal 20+ years of SU football, if we need to go back to run run pass football so be it.

1. We aren't getting the Northeast's Top QB.
2. Those guys mainly do not fit an air raid.

Kids in the Northeast do not play football year round like in Florida and Texas. If we want to go air raid we need to get QBs and WRs from those states.

I disagree. I think the Head Coach and the guys doing the recruiting matter. You’re telling me a guy like Leach or Kiffin or Mullen couldn’t recruit a NE QB to play in the Dome in the ACC? I think Marrone and whatever staff he puts together could to.

All those QBs are good passer and completely fit the mold. what kind of a QB do you think is air raid? And when I say air raid I’m not talking about Milhouse’s air raid I just want a quarterback that can sling it around we should be throwing it 30 times a game

This is the baffling thing - Babers isn't the same coach we hired.

The difference now between a Babers offense and Shafer one is Tucker.

This is pretty accurate. Both parts. Watching the last two games was like watching Shafer with a sprinkle of Grob in coaching execution. The players are far superior to that, so this is just comparing coaching.

We aren't getting Leach or Kiffin so that point is moot. Marrone couldn't get a QB here. His plan was Loeb.

That wasn’t my point. You say basically that it’ll never happen I disagree you need the right head coaches that can get it done. Guys with clout. There was a time Kiffin would come here but our holier than thou Fanbase would never have allowed it.

If we wanted the air raid we would need to either hire a failed HC or an OC. Neither of which would have connections to our recruiting base. So not only do we have to hope that they can coach, we need to hope that they can recruit the limited supply of players that fit that in the Northeast. That is the winning formula we need?

Hough as a Csonka-like fullback, Tucker as a Little-like halfback, someone like Lutz as a Couglin-like runner/receiver and a quarterback who can throw the ball. Jess sayin'

With the transfer portal, it should be easier to recruit QB's than ever, especially if you have an air raid offense.

Dino's years:. FBS only
13th.
25th
26th. Dungey end
57th. Devito start
110th
126th. Devito / Shrader

I mean, if we're being honest, our offense hasn't deteriorated because our talent has, its deteriorated because the system is garbage and has been exposed. There's a reason why nobody else runs what we run. Going fast isn't an offense strategy, nor is running more plays. Those are actual byproducts of efficient, offensive success, predicated upon having an actual cogent system.
