Wegman's Coming to North Carolina

Great. Maybe I'll have to relocate from NYS to the Carolinas in order to be able to shop at a Wegmans again.

CARY = Concentrated Area of Relocated Yankees. An acronym I learned on a visit there many moons ago. Had a few friends move to that area for work in the 90's and they have done very well. There was a bunch of New Yorkers/New Englanders in and around that area. The natives were a little resistant to the Northerners at the time although I'm sure things have changed since.

Uh oh, the Carolina Ford Dealers, Krogers and Bojangles may have competition for ACC TV sponsorships now!

By this rate I'll enjoy the opening of the SLC, UT Wegman's in 2164.

I'd like Wegman's in Texas. I'd settle for Hoffman's, Gianelli and salt potatoes until they get here.

Cary is attractive but felt a bit sterile to me. Have thought about moving in several years to the area but think Carrboro is more my cup of tea.

Not sure what will happen first...Wegman's, Costco or Ikea here in Panama City...or I retire from my job in about 16 years...I am guessing my retirement...

The closest Wegman's will apparently be the NC one mentioned in the OP. The closest Costco is in Tallahassee about 90 minutes away. The closest Ikea is in Atlanta.

What shopping chain do you have down there, friend I work with is moving down to Florida, cant remember where but its a chain that she said sucks and she's gonna miss Wegmans the most...

The wife mentioned this to me the other day. Looks like grocery shopping in Cary is in my future.

I have a friend interviewing to be a professor at SU today and tomorrow. When they were at dinner, she asked the group what they like most about Syracuse and someone responded with Wegman's.

Publix, Winn-Dixie and Piggly Wiggly are the most common in my area...

You got the sanitized version. Locals really call it Containment Area for Relocating Yankees. Like unsweetened ice tea is "Yankee" tea!

You'll never see IKEA in PC...too small of an area

I'll say Costco arrives first.

Winn Dixie is probably what they are referring too...Publix are actually pretty good.

Publix are no Wegman's but they are better than Price Chopper and Tops.
My son lives in Florida and the weirdest thing I've found when - at least at Publix - is that folks don't return the cart to the store or a designated spot. Instead you are supposed to find the nearest curb and place the front two wheels on the curb. Why this is I have no idea. The other main difference (being from New York) is the enormity of the wine section. Seems to take up a quarter of the store (which is nice).

Hmmm...interesting. Haven't seen that in NW Florida. You either return the carts to the store or use a designated spot. Unless of course someone is one of the many lazy ones who just leave the empty cart in/by their parking spot.

Saw it when he lived in Stuart and now in West Palm -40 minutes down the coast.
