Welcome Back GMac Event / Presser

Has Hak been a coach at any level anywhere?

I mean, I love Hak to death, but I'm not sure I want someone cutting their teeth in coaching starting at the P4 level.
I think I saw him mentioned recently in connection to the GM position. Apparently he is currently a scout in the Pistons organization. Wouldn’t be on staff as a coach

But he would be on staff to recruit. Gerry mentioned that is what he envisions for his GM. And for what it’s worth, they were tight I think from their jersey retirement.

ps... what great marketing by our new AD. The signs and the shirts. It's a new era besides the MacnamERA
If the AD is in any way, shape, or form making decisions this low level, things are worse at SU than I thought.

Did anyone ask about offensive style/pace of play, and if what we saw at Siena is what we can expect at Syracuse?

He answered a few questions about it. One was a total coach answer with lots of terminology that most fans wouldn't understand but went into depth about how its critical to have guys on the court that can make things happen late in shot clock when multiple plays/scenarios break down etc and where to go with the ball in those situations.

He answered it a couple times where he got into comments around a family of plays he has and focused on how he leveraged the players and talked about adapting. It’s worth just watching the presser replay to get the context.

Stressed offensive and defensive efficiency and not turning the ball over

Also, talked about as a coach he has to adapt to his players' skills, as well as players needing to adapt to his plays and coaching.

Script from the late 80s for sure. Amazing childhood memories.

I loved the 2000s Cuse gear though

SU and Nike were idiots for getting rid of this uniform style the year after we won it all. What a great marketing decision! 🤦🏼‍♂️ They started wearing these for the 1994-95 season. I still have this Gerry jersey and love it!

Encouraged when he spoke about what good shots look like and WHO should be taking them. He might retain more guys than we originally thought. It’s easier bringing 3-4 portal guys than 8-9.

GM? Hmmm
Personally, I don't want someone with a scouting background as a GM. There are too many players in the portal to scout them all thoroughly, so you need someone with an analytics background to identify potential targets, who you can then scout in more detail. In terms of traits I'd want for a GM, I'd want 1. analytics background, 2. connections to get a sense of potential entrants and the overall market, 3. scouting/evaluation. The GM should have skills that aren't redundant with the coaching staff, who ideally are all expert talent evaluators themselves

2,000 fans is incredible. Well done to all!
actually 4,000 were there, maybe more from everything that's been put out there by the dome and SU folks. As JB said pretty amazing is right.

The question I have is has anything like this ever happened anywhere else? An introduction and presser with that many excitable fans?

Should go with the jerseys from Gerry’s era. Bring back the SU logo around the basketball from 95-04.

I’d be fine with this. Love the script but it’s not been good to us wearing it in the past 5 or so years at all.

Would love to see:

HC: McNamara
AC: TBA (Outside The Family)
AC: Lee
AC: Blackwell
Ops: Corasaniti
Dir. of Player Development: Onuaku
Asst. Dir. of Player Development: Warrick
Video Coordinator: GA Promotion
Special Assistant to Head Coach: Open
General Manager: Hop or Open
Chief of Staff: Open

I get confused, and I guess I'm just taking this opportunity to say it. Maybe you've been consistent, don't know.

But so often I've read on this board that we had enough talent this year, it was just the coaching.

Now that we're in the offseason, seems like everyone wants all those players gone.

Is the story now that Red tainted them so badly that they can't be saved?

I will respond because I think this is a good point. The team we assembled was a team that could go to the tournament with a good coach, no doubt in my mind. Also, we have way more total money package, and we should be using that package to bring in the best players we can. With the new reported funds, there is more than enough to have upgrades over last year's talents. If we can bring in better more talented players than the ones we have because of the increase in funds then we should do that.

We shouldn't "settle" for players because they were on the team last year under last year's fiscal constraints.
