What are the odds Ashton Broyld is under center...

All I will says is this (and I have zero inside knowledge here) - Marrone bemoaned the lack of big plays last year. I think we all can agree that Broyld brings the danger of the big play and is a player that if sucessful, will keep opposing DC's up at night.

It makes sense to me that what Marrone is really doing is protecting Ashton from the public eye. The kid is raw - and I don't think he wants Ashton to be scrutinized by the fans - who will either heap unrealistic expectations on the kid, or subject him to ridicule. I really don't think this is a competitive advantage thing. But I don't think you need to be a rocket scientist to realize that Broyld is certainly the reason why practices are closed.

Is it possible the reason is that crowds of dozens tend to make him take off his pants? I'm sure Millhouse will be front and center Saturday with any such report.

I think the unrealistic expectations on Broyld is a great point, and this very well could be the reason for closed practices. I have heard next to nothing about Ashton on the hill though, and I have heard quite a bit of things from a few different players. I suspect that he is getting plenty of reps, but I doubt he plays in the Fall and that could be the reason why Marrone would want to keep people from getting high expectations on a kid that won't play. This is just a spin and following of the logic here. Now you have me talking about conspiracy theories

I think he's going to be a nice player for the Orange but the expectations seem to be way too high I agree. He has a lot to learn even if Marrone gives him a small amount of plays and the optimist in me is hoping he can be redshirted the whole year and the offense clicks on all cylinders.

Opinions that don't make sense:
that Marrone closed practices to allow a new QB (Broyld) to get up to speed
that Broyld will red-shirt (already had a PG year)
that Broyld will be under center if Nassib is healthy (more likely -- Wildcat)

this post is the grudging equivalent of a slow clap from an 80s movie. damn you

There is no high expectations. He will be used at times to give offense a boost. (Wildcat, at RB, spread sets) Thats it. He is not in the running to be the back up. Maybe next year but not now. He already redshirted at milford. Some of you may not realize this, but Ashton maybe our most powerful runner, no disrespect to AAM and J Smith.

I'd say, "a reason", not the entire reason.

I like this idea. NW used the same principals with their backup QB, now starter last year. We need playmakers, get him in there and acclimated to the speed of the game by using his natural athleticism while he learns the playbook. We need contributions now, not the promise of them in future years.

Like I said UF 2006. Tebow was brought in in the redzone. Chris Leak was the QB.

Team could use the red zone help. It makes sense for them to do this. I think Ashton maybe able to throw better than Tebow when Tebow was a frosh. I think this will help maybe keep off balance. Could we see the jump pass?

I'm certainly no rocket scientist. (And I haven't stayed at a Holiday Inn Express in months.) But I don't believe that the shutting down of practices is related to one individual player.

its definatley not because of him. I know why

Ashton played hoop so maybe his signature thing will be a behind the back pass or olley oop. Maybe Fab has been working out as a receiver.

I think the chance of an uninjured Nassib starting all games next year is 50%.

Has your opinion on Hunt being the QB in waiting changed?
