who could seriously make a difference?

If we want to avoid the supposed "bad look" of firing Adrian Autry at the end of this season, then tell me one or two coaches who he could realistically add, who somebody like Donnie Freeman would look at and say "yes, I could really learn a lot from this guy".

Because as much as Red needs a bench and game-planning coach like Seth Greenberg to join him and help him learn the ropes, I feel like we need a legit big man coach to come in here. I think I just read that Herm Harried is going to be coaching the McDonald's game. I always liked him a lot and he built a powerhouse program at Lake Clifton that won a bunch of championships in Maryland.

Any chance we could get him? My gosh, we need somebody like that - or maybe younger. We need somebody who is going to come in here, and would gain instant respect as a teacher of the game. Rosie Bouie is another kind of choice, but somebody who has succeeded at a high level.

What would people think about Etan Thomas as a big man coach? His politics seem to align with how campuses operate these days. He's still young enough to show these guys some moves.

And he was a monster! Really good technique of blocking with his left hand, to avoid reaching across and fouling most right-handed shooters. Nine years in the NBA says something.

He is also probably the best example I can recall of any player getting jacked over the course of his career at SU. So you could see a commitment to fitness.

If you want a big man coach, Arinze is right down the road at Siena and has DMV recruiting connections. Personally I think we need to hire a defensive guru or young up and coming offensive mastermind. Or how about both?

I mean youre technically describing Engelstad and Straughn

No offense to Arinze, but I think a lot of his success on defense was just because of his build. He was a building. People were not going past him. But you either are built that way, or you're not. Not much you can teach there. To me, Etan had exceptional fundamentals, and was a tough player. I think he could bring some interesting energy to the program.

So, what in the world is wrong? Because ain't nobody calling either of these guys "defensive gurus" after THIS year.

Replacing a coach means Red has to get rid of one or are we short?

I believe they are entitled to add another under the rules.
But lots of people would like to see a shakeup if he is to stay next year.
Our defense is literally the worst ever. They have to do something new.

The head coach is whats wrong... Engelstad is known as a defensive coach and Straughn as a young offensive mind

Let's say they bring him back, which lots of people are indicating. Then what?
Because the guys on the bench aren't getting it done.
Dynamics? I dunno. I'm not there. But it's clearly not working.

Only Iowa and Miami have given up more ppg this season as far as major colleges and we are giving up 1.7 ppg more than last year.

Three schools have given up less than 60 ppg, Houston, Tennessee and Duke. And it just so happens that they are three of the top eight ranked teams. So, Red, there is your blueprint for success.

You're not getting anyone worth anything. They all know it's win or clean house. No one up and coming is leaving for that situation. We keep avoiding the obvious...

This experiment is a failure. Things are broken. I have heard some very disappointing news about work ethic on and off the court about the team in the last week. There is no one enforcing any discipline on this team. None of the players or coaches are really stepping up and being leaders. Too many good cops. Players aren’t doing anything bad or illegal just not focused enough.

Moving from good cop assistant to bad cop head coach is a tough transition. If Autry doesn't do it now or next season he will out of a job.

Truthfully his best role is probably good cop assistant coach if he can't hold players accountable.

"A" coach...?
If Red(and Wildhack) wants(him) to stay, he needs to make HUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE changes to the staff.
You can start with Cabiles...sorry...But you look at the majority of players and physically (over the years)they just don't mature(strength and speed).
Griff...adios. Jesse Edwards had a leap forward in ability after he played/spent time with the Dutch national team.
Defensively we give up more layups and "open 3s" then most anyone. There just is NO DEFENSIVE INTENSITY.
There is talent coming. But no way the Orange realize its potential without changes on the bench.

TBH I expect any great assistant we hire now is about like when we hired Rocky Long under Dino in 2023.

There's probably a 3rd year because of reasons--and crazier things have happened then turnarounds--but joining this staff now is about like boarding the Titanic *after* it hit the iceberg. :(
