Family reunion?Ummm, I met my wife here. And no state income tax. That's all I got.
Haha! Nope. Neither of us are originally from here. Legit question though.Family reunion?
But we were headed west through the Cumberland Gap to Johnson City, Tennessee! Johnson City is a nice little town too ... due east of Knoxangeles as my buddy in Tennessee would call it.Jonesborough is pretty fun on Thanksgiving weekend (oldest town in TN)
Piegon Forge and Dollywood is a nice one time thing
Nashville
My parents have moved down to VA a few years ago and are near TN so we have been a bunch. Really just seems like VA West the parts we've been in and it's mostly boring.
Yeah really like Johnson City, kids love to go to go shopping there and it's a nice place to walk around. But we were headed west through the Cumberland Gap to Johnson City, Tennessee! Johnson City is a nice little town too ... due east of Knoxangeles as my buddy in Tennessee would call it.

My biggest gripe with Tennessee is the state sales tax.My son lives in Jonesborough.
(He's driving down to the game tomorrow - about 4-1/2 hours).
I'd like to move down there in a couple of years, trying to convince son #2 to go to UT or AppSt, but I tell everyone Tennessee sucks so people stop moving there.

That sounds right, I had a choice between Tennessee and Florida when I was living in the Atlanta metro as to where I wanted to move to. I went with Florida. Love the Blue Ridge mountains though. What's it about 9.5% give or take ? I've crunched the numbers, as someone who lives in NY we'd come out way ahead. Most NYrs already pay 8% sales tax plus income tax. Property taxes are absurdly low, absurdly low.
I prefer Eastern Tennessee, the closer to the mountains the better. It's not for everyone especially if you're in a hurry - lol. But Knoxville to Johnson City east is very nice. and also Chattanooga/Northern GA pretty nice as well.
Judging by the chins, this court be Heupel's parents, right?

That isn't right .. in 2023 Tennessee paid more than received. Federal support for services is taken from federal taxes and has nothing to do with state income tax so the third bullet is ridiculous in general. Federal programs come from federal taxes, state has nothing to do with it. In 2023 Tennessee was net -$4 billion in the federal tax dole ... which for a state that size is big. Stop relying on garbage AI to put out nonsense.Being A federal Welfare State isn't a positive in my opinion. All the states that don't have state income tax just take more from the other states.
Tennessee receives more federal aid than it pays in federal income tax because Tennessee does not have a state income tax. While Tennessee residents contribute to federal income taxes like other states, the state as a whole receives significant federal funds for various programs, resulting in a net positive balance where federal money received outweighs the state's direct contributions via income tax.
How Tennessee Benefits from Federal Funding
- No State Income Tax:
Tennessee is one of the states with no state income tax, a significant difference from many other states that rely on it to fund state services.
- Reliance on Other Taxes:
To compensate for the lack of income tax, Tennessee relies heavily on other forms of revenue, such as sales tax.
- Federal Support for Services:
Despite not having an income tax, the state and its residents still benefit from federal programs and funding in areas like disaster relief, food assistance, and public education
TN did abolish slavery the Feb before the war ended but Virginia did it in 1864. PA was the first state to do it in 1780 (took a few years to be fully enforced).Tennessee had the most Union soliders out of any Confederate state.
Think they also were first to abolish slavery.
The point being, if they don't have adequate state income, they require federal support... They pass their funding requirements to other states that do fully fund themselves. That isn't right .. in 2023 Tennessee paid more than received. In 2023, New Yorkers paid about $89 billion more to the federal government than they received.usafacts.org
Texas, Tennessee and Florida all paid more than received and have zero state income tax.
As for the second bullet I would far rather get taxed on spend then taxed on income that is common sense.

As for your support of sales tax, that increases the proportional burden on poor people. Rich people save their money, they don't spend it. Meanwhile, the paycheck to paycheck crowd spend every penny, thus pay more taxes than those who save money. It's regressive instead of progressive tax.
But that's besides the point... I was just making fun of Tennessee.
