What do you think are the 3 things that most negatively affected SU football in the last 25 years

The economic decline of Syracuse

The lack of investment in FB facilities 1990-2010
Yeah, the Upstate decline plus the shift for population growth and football generally to the Southeast & West are the underlying factors. Some of their others (facilities, recruiting, coaching staffs, AD and admin decisions) are consequences of those factors.
We don’t have the wealthy fan base, 100,000 paying fans, the corporate support, or local commitment to football (high school & college) that can exist in the SE and West, or at factories like PSU, OSU and U Mich. So, it is a hard fight to stay relevant in football.
More fun to pick on Greg or Nancy, obviously.

Location, weather, few P5-quality recruits within NYS

PSU already had their pick of Northeast recruits before they joined the B1G.
Sure, but some of the ones that didn't go there may have been more likely to go to other Big East schools, if PSU was there.I'm sure some of them were lost to the B1G instead. It would have also solidified the football side of the conference more.

1. Temple loss avoid that and we are OK and no Robinson BCS game and 1-2 more years of PP followed by a good hire. Big East was awful after Miami and VT left.

2. ACC snub. BC and VT dominated their new conference when they got in and we didn’t.

3. Recruiting and geography being linked. We don’t have any chance of getting 4-5 stars rn even if we rattle off 2 straight 10 win seasons things will still be similar to now.

2005 WVU won the Sugar Bowl (in Atlanta) against Georgia.
2006 the BE had multiple Heisman candidates and 3 teams finished in the BCS top 12. Louisville won the Orange Bowl.
2007 WVU would have been in the BCS championship if it didn’t lose to a bad Pitt team to end the regular season. It still crushed Oklahoma in the Fiesta Bowl.

Despite all of that, the reputation of the conference was poor. Most years it was viewed as a league without depth. It often finished the season with only 2 or 3 teams ranked in the top 25 and there were a few years where the conference champion was outside the top 10 or even 15. Us having a share of Big East Championship in 2004 while having a 6-6 overall record didn't help.

Sure. It just lacked the previous buzz. I mean it’s not like Miami has been Miami since leaving. But they were pretty good last few years. VT too were at their peak. You’d call both Davis/Coker and Beamers programs at the end of the OBE blue bloods now a days.

I’m so mad we couldn’t get away from annual Pitt and Ville games with the ACC move. Wish it was WVU and not Ville.

For obvious reasons I don’t exactly have fond memories of the years you mentioned re FB.
