He was solid last year. I don't think he's had a target this year.

If I was a tight end recruit I would look at any other school as it becomes clear that the tight end in this offense just needs to be an undersized offensive tackle. Talk about killing a skilled position on offense and making the opposing defenses to narrow it's coverages against our offensive game plans.

Hell colgate might be a better option at this point for a receiving tight end than syracuse

Got hurt in the 1st qtr, and Parris had to come in for him.

Although Wales did return to the game later.

What was the deal with Parris catching the ball from Allen and sitting down? He needed to push that rock forward for at least the first down.

5 games.2 catches. 19 yards. synonym. non factor

I don't think he has ecovered from a severa ankle sprain, probably came back to early

our tight ends aren't even targeted. it's clear that they aren't part of the game plan, but i am also wondering if they will be in the future since we seem to be recruiting much more athletic pas catching te's. very interested to see what we do going forward?

also i know Kendall Moore had a good game against Northwestern, but if you watch him play we need him more at OT. He has good hands, but he has the potential to be a good OT if he just accepted it, not to mention we need tackle depth

one of the highest rated recruits next year who currently has us in the lead i'm going to guess isn't too thrilled with what he is seeing. he is more of a receiving te. PSU seems to be a future contender and with the way they use their TE it should be an easy choice for him.

A good tight end is worth 1 or 2 additional wins.

Offensive identity is a huge issue. What is our best unit on offense? Running back 10 times over. What is our weakest? Easily wide receiver. Solution? Two back sets. Spread the field with the run. The Spread is really just the Wing T with more speed. The one time PTG and Smith were in the backfield we had a nice run by Hunt with some decoy thrown in on the fake to Smith. Then you can fake the dive and run the TE pop pass 2-3 times a game when the LBs come up. Wales is an advantage for us and he needs to be used better. Also they need to find an outside receiver. Someone who can be physical and get open. Clark should always be in the slot. Kobena probably too. Broyld has played well because he is in the slot. Move him outside and I think it may improve the overall unit. But you really have to use what you have and Wales has really been underused. Three and four wide sets are great to create mismatches. Unfortunately for us that mismatch is usually on our end with the current personnel.

you are so right. the best coaches adapt to their personnel, they don't try to fit a square peg into a round hole. Wales has shown he is more then capable of being a pass catching tight end as well. I think the same can be said defensively as well. I hated hearing last week that we weren't going to change the game plan because that is who we are. Well when you are severely under manned against one of the better teams in the country you are basically just sending your team out there as sacrifical lambs if that's our thinking.

We have wide receivers who could not get open. I don't know why we don't have a big line up of Wales, Broyld, Kendal Moore, Bristme for the valve. We can move Wales and Kendal Moore up and down the line to run, chip ends and backers, release from the line, wide out for size mismatches. You could even put West or Parrish in there for a big spread.

Nothing wrong with using a little muscle to get what we need.

Amen brother. I call it setting yourself up for failure. Good coaches take their strength and use it to exploit the other teams weakness. Regardless of who or what they think their identity is.

Very sound and insightful posts--certainly agree that our offensive strengths are being underutilized. The square peg in a round hole analogy is right on the money! Lot of season left--let's hope our coaches figure out how to get at least 4 more W's.

Good post. Scenario would especially work if Broyld at wideout could demonstrate the ability to win the battle with a smaller defender on 50/50 balls.
