Really, really, really hoping he plays in the bowl game. Without him, the event is just a scrimmage, which is fine if you accept the current reality even if it's anticlimactic. If that's the case we turn our attention to his replacement. There's no intrigue or upside to seeing Johnson as the perennial backup, so I'd roll with Jakhari just to see what he can do. But it's also putting him in an unfair position since the offense wasn't built around his skill set. Optically I'm more concerned that we'll look like a complete dumpster fire without Kyle and fans will start to get very concerned and flip out (because that's what we do). It's not that either QB option is so terrible but let's face it the whole offensive system was predicated on McCord's ability to read quickly and have superb accuracy and touch.

All this said - what do we think has to happen for McCord to play in the game? Bowl tier, matchups, NFL guidance, etc.

I think there’s a number of players that will make this decision together. I would not blame anyone for sitting out, but, I think we have a good shot of having these guys go play together one last time.

This team’s close. I could see them playing one last game together. Especially the ones who’ve know each other for a long time.

My guess is its probably a 20% chance he plays if that.

Even if we get the gator bowl vs an sec school.

The miami game WAS his bowl game

I never worry too much about these bowl games once the playoffs started. Glorified exhibitions at best and the regular season is what brings in recruits

I just think the whole thing is a shame that opting out is ok. It was unheard of even 10 years ago. You’re on the team. Your team has a game. You play for your school.
Once the portal and NIL became reality that ended. And this isnt 2000 anymore. It does stink but the bowls are more important to fans than anything. Everyone wanted a big playoff and this is the end result.

Its the same for the NIT in basketball which is completely dead.

I think the playoff makes bowl games even more insignificant.

So why would you play in an insignificant game that could cost you millions of dollars of earning potential from your career?

Unless the bowls start rev sharing with athletes, this will continue to happen. And the bowls should absolutely be doing that.

What will the school do for them if they get hurt and it hurts either their draft status or their future to play? I will answer that, nothing. Kids that opt out, do it as a business decision. No different than if you leave your employer for a higher paying job. It really is that simple. Now, that hurts us as fans, we want to see the gang play another game. And 10 wins. And I think the chances of McCord playing are higher than 20% but only because of his relationship with Fran Brown. I also wouldn't be surprised if Fran told him to sit it out. As he would be looking out for him.

I really wish he would do something so offensive that he would be forbidden from playing for SU in the bowl game, thereby ruining the chances of these threads from reappearing.

Maybe poop on the hood of Wildhack's car?

Who among us haven't done that. Didn't even get a ticket

Have to assume that this is in the very distant future

There is a biggity difference in pooping on a car in your early 20s and pooping on a car in your middle age years.

Also, he can't possibly end his college career on a higher note. I assume he's graduated already. He'll finish out the semester and go off to train with whatever coach his agent is affiliated with.

A chance at 10 games is "just a scrimmage"? Give me a break for crying out loud.

Once the portal and NIL became reality that ended.
But why? I think everyone has their theories but there isn’t a single accepted answer.

Now that players are getting paid, they should play or lose a percentage of their NIL. You can’t have it both ways. You get paid, you play. Don’t play, lose money.

Yeaaaa I will say bowl game is a litttle more important for Cuse in order to stay in that top 25 going into next year.

McCord opts out and we lose so that’d suck. But at least we would have a very valid excuse.

I don't think it'll matter at all. It will be way more important who comes in to replace McCord versus the bowl game's result.

Sure but I still wanna be top 25 in the offseason. It helps a ton for perception. Especially at end of the year.

Board will change its tune if we get an SEC win in a bowl game. That’d be pretty hype and I bet the “it doesn’t matter” will only apply if we lose.

I’m going to say this again for you people who keep saying “who we bring in to replace McCord” etc

How do anyone of you know what we have in Jakari?

Everything I’ve heard, is that he is solid.

There’s a reason Fran kept him around and didn’t cut him loose

Looking at the tankathon mock draft - no Kyle in the first three rounds. The question then becomes whether or not he could play himself into Round 3 with a big bowl game.

Of course, I am not commenting on the sanity, or lack thereof, that this kid doesnt already belong in the third round or better.

Kids just dont care as much as fans. Plain and simple. Everything that has changed in college football over the past 2-3 seasons its never going to be the same.

Look at the kid from west virginia (the qb who we played in 2018). Sat out the bowl and was a zero in the nfl. Kids want to get paid. Thats it. Give me money. Im not risking anything playing in the whatever bowl. If there is even a hint of being drafted they are done.

Its the reason why i really could care less about the bowl game. If we go and win great. If we dont oh well. I dont attend bowl games so its a non issue for me. Look at last year. Most embarrassing game possibly in syracuse football history. We overcame it.

We win the bowl game in 2018 for our 10th win and it went nowhere the next few seasons.

Im too old and have been around the block enough to not get all worked up over this stuff. If he doesnt play so be it. Move on to the next kid
