With the final transition from amateur collegial football and basketball to professional and semi-professional status viewership will decline. Minor league sports are not big revenue generators. TV revenue will decline.

Congress will probably get involved. The toothpaste cannot be put back in the tube. Collegial football and basketball cannot be revived.

Some schools will opt out of the business of owning professional teams. Who will drop and who will remain?

Texas Tech is budgeting 50 million for player salaries. I can think of better ways for Syracuse to spend 50 million.

I am ever so grateful that I got to experience the rise and success of Big East basketball.

I could see hoops going that way. I find the current product almost unwatchable. Football is a different animal but I could see it dipping in popularity

If the fifty million results is $150-$200 million in revenue, is there really a better way to spend it? The revenue comes from every where, including increased enrollment due to awareness of the school, which is brought by athletic success. (Assuming TTech doesn’t have Rutgers people running the show).

Half of their budget is NIL.
With the transition to hired hands, average fans like me, will be less passionate. Players will have no loyalty. I surmise that TV revenue will decline.
I agree that athletic success can lead to academic success. Clemson is the poster child but even if TT wins a natty U of T will attract the better students. I wonder how much of our ranking decline is due to athletic collapse, not to mention the midget.

I think the tribal support of schools and gambling will keep things going for many.

Personally, I have watched very little CFB and CBB other than SU games in recent years. Going full pro and letting outside investment in teams will probably strain my interest even more in the future.

All they need to figure out is how to have players sign multi-year deals. Once there’s more stability with the roster then it’ll be a lot better.

College football is the second most popular sport in America. It’ll be fine.

This is not your fathers college football. This is minor league professional sports without monetary caps or contracts.

If the supposed NIL Salaries for top players are real, and keep going up, I think we are going to see a big shift in dudes staying in school.

Supposedly Quinn Ewers turned down a chance to make $6 million this upcoming season to go to the NFL. I believe his 4 year contract is worth like $4 million as a late round guy for the Dolphins.

If that story becomes more and more commonplace, we are going to see all but guaranteed top 20 picks staying in school to make bank. I also suspect we will see even more lawsuits to extend guys playtime in college football for an extra year to attempt to maximize earning potential before they are forced to go to the NFL or just move on with their lives into the “real world”

If/when it starts watering down the NFL product, that’s when I think we will see real change to the system

At this point I am rooting for a 32 team Super Conference in football. Then a restructuring for everything else where we have regional conferences of 10 teams.

I would prefer to play 9 games in FB against traditional Northeastern schools and 18 games in BBall. Oh and MSG for the BBall Tourney. In FB you can have the CCG trophy as the Lambert since all but Penn State will be in the conference. I think they would agree as it keeps the trophy alive and actually adds value.

Yes we would be 2nd tier in FB but that is fine, and we could actually make and advance in the playoffs. With a 32 Super League there will be plenty of decent leftover programs to make it interesting.

I thought it was about the name on the front of the jersey (according to some)?

I'm very surprised you didn't list the 32 specific teams you'd prefer to see in said conference. ;)

If we aren’t in it I wouldn’t care. Just leave me out of the NIL and Portal race and give me my traditional opponents in a round robin conference. And MSG.
