What's the cut off line for DM?

i would have to think that ends this year

of course you do.

Not that there might not be unusual circumstances this year, or you might actually acknowledge the trend stated as an accomplishment.

'08 - 33,474 avg. (Robinson's final season)

'09 - 38,403 avg. (Marrone's first season)

'10 - 40,064 avg.

'11 - 40,504 avg.

Evaluations aren't in a vaccum. Recruiting isn't in a vaccum. Absolutes at this point are the standards of morons.
Go i asked you a simple question only a moron wouldnt be able to answer it. At what point if any loss wise would you let Doug go after this season? It is a simple question. Im pretty clear as to how i would treat the situation. Sure i understand that things can happen that would change my "vaccum" Injuries, close games, only four wins but winning the last three or four to finish strong. Still the question stands.

3 years, 4 years, 5 years, now 7. it keeps growing. we went to a bowl in year 2, the depths of hell are greatly exaggerated. the schedule also isn't as tough as some will have you believe. there is no reason why we shouldn't beat stonybrook, temple, uconn, northwestern and minny. it will only take 1 other BE win to get to a bowl. that's only 6 wins being asked for 2 years after winning 7 in the regular season. some don't want to give doug ownership of this program and want to set the bar low.
Uhh, temple is pretty damn good

Uhh, temple is pretty damn good

Golden was a pretty damn good recruiter...

Temple had a player drafted in the 1st and 2nd rounds last year, and could have 3 more drafted this year, including All-American running back Bernard Pierce - Temple's all time leader in points scored.

Northwestern is at home. They were 5-7 last year. I expect we will be favored and we will win. I absolutely think we will win 6+ and get to a bowl game. I know the staff fully expects that too. As fans, some like to set the bar low enough so that success can be met by just showing up.

Bees, The only game that we should win for sure on that schedule is Stonybrook. I am not saying it's a good/bad thing whatsoever but just where the program is at. NW and Minny are basically pick em games, Minny is a low level Big 10 program but still a Big 10 program and their coach will have them ready in year 2, IMO. I just don't get anyone who thinks we should beat anybody but Stonybrook, why would that be? We were the worst team in the worst BCS conference last year. People need to temper expectations, IMO. This team is still very very rough around the edges, very rough. If you want to use that as a vehicle to criticize marrone and I am fine with that, I just don't feel like discussing it.

Marrone has 2 more years on his contract and he isn't going anywhere prior to that and will be given every opportunity to turn it around. My opinions of him have been stated 1,000 times but I just don't need to pile on the guy in the 7 month off season for housekeeping stuff or whether is he grumpy or not.

expectations versus reality are two different things. NW comes to play every Saturday and Fitzgerald will have his guys ready, like I said it's a 50/50 game and it was last time but NW had a few starters out as well. It will be a good game but I wouldn't go as far to say that we should win, this team STUNK last year, STUNK. Lots of work to do

I remember the GROB years when we played Miami-OH, sure we SHOULD win that game but was anyone really surprised when we lost? No. Our expectations as SU football fans are still higher than what we see on the field. That is the problem and that is what needs to change and that is what Marrone is here to do, he just hasn't done it yet. He has made some strides but he has also had some rather large setbacks as well, but I don't think the process has to be a steady uphill grind, at this point I think it can take off but will it? You don't have to have back to back 8-5 seasons before you go 10-3, but whatever. I still think this team needs to get tougher in the trenches even downright nasty and that having Sales back will be huge.

Get an O Line and Marrone will be fine, I still think our O Line play stinks and has since George left, Browning was onto something but probably did not have enough time.

the sad thing is after 3 seasons we dont have a whole lot of straws to grasp at-

the way we stunk at every aspect last year has to be disheartening to anyone with a pulse-
and if your not scared or upset NOTHING was done to help a offense that was disgusting in 11 games -you just might not be a fan of the program-

anyone who thinks this team is better than who we will play -show me what you base that on-because every one of those teams has fans who think we are crap based on how we played last year and expect a win against us-stoney brook wont have a inkling of fear for us-and that my friends says it all

I too think we need to get to a bowl game and I expect us to get there. even if its at 6-6.

Uhhhh - I hope they increase the bowl-minimum wins to at least 7. A 6-6 team isn't deserving of a bowl game. No offense to your post, just needed to get that off my chest.

IMO 3 Ws or less and he should be fired. Stability for stability's sake is worse than no stability. See year 4 of GRob.

IMO 5 Ws or more he should stay.

4 Ws IMO would depend on how we play. Do we get better as the year goes on? Is their signs of improvement? Do we see any light for 2013? The last three years we have ended the year poorly. That HAS to change IMO if Marrone wants to keep his job.

I think Marrone is good enough that he will get to 4 or 5 Ws this year so he will be in that gray area for at least another year, but we better have or short list ready.

"I remember the GROB years when we played Miami-OH, sure we SHOULD win that game but was anyone really surprised when we lost? No."

Uh...I was there and pretty much everyone at the stadium was surprised that SU lost that game. I was. To me, that was the low point of GRob. It was the point I know he'd never be able to bring the team back.

I just don't feel like discussing it.

That was an awful long post for not wanting to discuss it.

You convinced me though so I will change my prediction and expectations to 1-11.

I don't want to discuss what marrone ate for breakfast in February and pretend like it has some overall relevance to wins and losses. Or whine about junior days or if he is grumpy or not?

Not sure I mentioned any of that. In fact I know I didn't nor anything like it.

Yea, they aren't a cupcake. But they are a MAC team and went 5-3 in the MAC. Lost to Ohio and Bowling Green and got hammered at home by Toledo. I expect to win.

understood, I expect what will be two evenly matched teams down there, hoping for the best but would not be surprised eitherway, glad they are losing that RB though, he was a monster. We play in the BE btw, not much better

you cant expect wins with this team -
same guys who had trouble with tulane and rhode island- and you expect a win?

We may or may not be favored against both NW and Temple but those two and every other game on the schedule next year except SB, are toss ups IMHO. I wouldn't doubt for one instance that the staff believes they can win every single game on the schedule this season but the same was true last year and that didn't turn out very well. My low expectations for this year are tempered by the reality of last season.

That is my point... on paper we could have won 6 of 7 of the games we lost last year, the fact is we weren't very close in many of those game, we were beat up pretty good by USF and Cinci, should have beat Rutgers by 21, we played like versus UCONN and if it wasn't for 45 turnovers by UCONN in the first half we would have gotten blown out. We hung in versus Pitt untill Nassib threw the pick 6 but none of these teams were very good say other than Cinci who did with their back up QB. This team stunk last year other than a few decent quarters, and one complete game versus WVU where worlds alligned. Last year was a very bad year, we won 5 games but it looked really bad for the most part minus WVU

Now that schedule is out, what is the cut off line for Coach Marrone next year?

I say bowl game or bust. I know the schedule is tough, but this will be his fourth year. We have one FCS team on the schedule and play in the weakest weakest BCS conference in the nation. There is absolutely NO reason that we can't expect a bowl game. Even though we play BCS teams in non-conference schedule, we have Minnesota and Northwestern, who aren't your top 25 teams. Every Big East team is beatable. Yes, USC and @Mizzou will be tough, but you have to expect that your coach have recruited enough players to be able to compete by year 4.

I think we will surprise people and go 8-4. 5-2 in the conference. Coach gets extension.
I am glad a lot of people on this board aren't ADs. Wow this board has hit a new low.
