Sometimes being forced to play brings out the best in a player. I hope this is the case.If he's going to "figure it out" this season...now would be a good time to finish up the figuring.

The good news with Benny is that there's almost no place for his game to go but up.Sometimes, when a coach is forced to let a player play through mistakes, the player grows his confidence and it brings out the best in that player
Trust me....nobody wants this young man to emerge more than me. I love his attitude and his approach to get it figured out. I have ordered the crow and have the hot sauce ready. I am begging somebody to serve it to me.i believe i will hang onto your post for awahile
You’re questioning Ks player development and misses? Come on…..Benny is Demitis Nichols. So many similarities. We just have to wait for the good years. He wasn’t Melo. Which is 100% fine.
Alsacs: Go look up Joey Beard. Or Cheroke Parks. Or Crawford Palmer. It’s a wonder K was named the US Olympic Coach with such scouting or player development fails on his resume (Parks struggled as a frosh, then turned into an NBA player, but he wasn’t Laettner, so people bitched).
Oh my. I gather that skin color leads to assumptions. Everyone generalizes but it is important to always be fully aware that an individual sbould never ever be defined by a generalization. Not liking Benny’s hair isn’t necessarily racist. I’m darker than Benny and I hate it. I think black athletes’ hair/grooming in this era is an atrocity. Not just the college kids, but the NBA pros, as well. I call it the ‘homeless‘ look in instances like Durant’s unkept facial scraggle. The freakish horn-like dreads? The mophead braids? IMHO, it’s ugly. It makes people look dumb, poor, uneducated, sloppy, dirty… what have you.
Take that for what it’s worth, from a 50 year old who finds himself shouting at clouds on a more frequent basis. But, ****, man, when NBAers were sporting warm up gear last season that said “love us” or “respect us” or whatever, but they looked like the “hoppers” from The Wire… yeah, that’s an incongruity and a component of what is contributing to the civil political divide we have now.
Ugly is ugly and stupid is stupid. Don’t confound that with race or make it ‘uncomfortable’ for that discussion to be had in earnest.
Red was JBs first true knuckle ball pitcherRed Bruin was Jim's first huge recruit. His first year was not very memorable. Yes that 79 team was stacked talent wise but I still have the magazine where boeheim said he was their best recruit since Dave Bing. Red ended up having a fine career but he sure looked lost when he first got here.

Paul Harris always reminded me of Red. Questionable outside shot but a beast on the boards. Red could really jump too. Played bigger than his size, much like Paul. Paul played forward at maybe 6-4, 6-5. Terrific athlete and physical specimen, Paul could really board. Red was the same way.Red was JBs first true knuckle ball pitcher
Wow... Not quite sure how to even respond to this...Not liking Benny’s hair isn’t necessarily racist. I’m darker than Benny and I hate it. People create impressions. With every choice they make toward representing themselves to the world. Hair styles are a part of that. You make assessments about people based on what you see. Everyone does. You tell me: in what situation is a person with Benny-style hair going to be assumed to be of high intellect? I’m talking about issues broader and more significant than ‘trends.’ Positions of power. Hiring, for example. Policing, as another example. The deeper issue of what white people see when they black people and what they automatically expect. Did you see the story about the FedEx driver who was chased and shot at in Mississippi this week?Wow... Not quite sure how to even respond to this...
I don't like the "black athletes grooming stuff" or how that makes someone look dumb, poor and all that other stuff. I mean if you don't like the haircuts or styles that fine, it's a generational thing, but to generalize the picture like you did is not really cool. Hair styles, facial hair tells you absolutely nothing about being dumb, poor, dirty or uneducated regardless of race.
Hey, if that's where you stand, that's where you stand. Don't agree with the points you made, but this isn't the place to debate it. Definitely wish I could have deeper conversation with you about it and give you a different perspective. Not to change your mind or whatever, just a different perspective.People create impressions. That’s at the extreme. But it’s not binary. Impressions of a race, community, society… are built upon individual impressions that conglomerate into generalizations. Fact is, if we don’t look ‘Board Room Appropriate,’ we are only building into the negative stereotypes that already exist. The old maxim about not judging a book by its cover doesn’t apply. People Do judge. We are the least respected race on the planet. Internationally. Making aesthetic/grooming choices that take us further away from the kinds of choices made by the people who Are respected is not doing us any favors.
I’m going to end by suggesting that it is You who are making the inaccurate generalization. This is not a diatribe about all hair styles or all facial hair. It’s about the specific examples I noted, and those like them. I hope you/we can admit—if we are really having an honest conversation—about what We see and what we think.
