When do we get a plausible explanation?

Honestly don't want to have a go with him right now. I think all real fans are pretty down with the current situation. I don't know that anyone has any positive spin for it.

yep. I got nothing

To be clear my two cents is that Dino knows he needs to shake up his staff but won't.

He did it Bowling Green - that’s how Ward got hired

So what are you suggesting? Dino must go???

Don't pussyfoot around. Say what's on your mind.

Don't worry about taking some heat. These guys are pussycats.
Nope, I'm not. I hope he turns it around. He's a great asset but I'm not sure that he can get it done. He's not an innovator and doesn't seem to have the right people process. I want him to win, I have my doubts.

fortunately i think that Dino knows what is wrong. Unfortunately im not sure he will do what is required to try and fix the issues.

What do you think he thinks is wrong?

Better players generally equal better results. For a myriad of reasons Syracuse will never recruit elite players. To avoid complete frustration one must accept 500 as our average baseline.
I think most of us would take .500 as a baseline. That's not where we're headed this year.

well the local Syracuse TV channel opened the sports segment with high school sports, that's where we are.

Although CNS coming back with 28 points in the 2nd half to win is impressive

Yep.

And, what was likely one of the most cringe worthy moments in my life as a Syracuse fan (over 40 years) was watching the on field interview with BC's coach immediately after the game when he stated we ran the same play over 30 times, while almost himself you could see his smirk of utter astonishment, and how successful for them it was. It was as if he was saying to his opponent in a fight, now, before I punch you right in the face, I'm going to count to 100 for you to try to do something about that.:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:
Georgia Tech allover again

Last year guys who overachieved came back this year and sucked.

Obviously people want to put that on the staff and assume Dino told these kids that they’re great and don’t have to work hard and will go first round. But that’s clearly not the case.

O line is a personel thing. Can’t be worse next year.

WR similar as they were never that good but for the returners to be this bad is pathetic. I watched the Army Air Force game in its entirety those schools don’t throw but when they did they had better WRs than us.

D is soft. Maybe this can change next year.

Why do you think you're owed anything?

Do people really care about “coach speak”? Or is this just venting and piling on because you’re disappointed in the season?

I couldn’t care less what he says in a post game presser after a loss as long as he doesn’t say something stupid and crazy like Shafer.
I agree. The only commentary from Dino I have ever taken offense at was his lectures to the fans. I said it at the time and would say it now, coach your team and the fans are the least of your problems.

He always stares to the stands in the tunnel before running out on the field to check attendance. I’ve been told on here that if he leaves it will be because of fan support. Well, fans stepped up to the plate this year with all the new season ticket subscribers. There will be a drop off next year, no doubt.
I really don’t know what he expects from the fans, especially after the way this team has played this year

Well, after just what happened, that seems like a terrible idea.
There has to be accountability.
There has been a lot of back-biting on the sidelines since early in the season, especially from the offense.
I hate to say this, but I get the sense DeVito isn't that popular with his teammates, just watching as a fan.
Kind of like a Bill Scharr situation - great arm, but something's just not right there between him and the rest of the offense.

Few weeks ago, Dino said “this is where we find out what we’re made of” ... I don’t think they answered in the affirmative.

Something is wrong with the heart and leadership of the team - the signs are all there. I think Dino knows this too.

Not sure how to fix it. Maybe some transfers out, few coaching changes, different approach.

Well, maybe one step is to stop being quite so business-like on the sidelines when the game is getting away from you. I know it's not his style - and we clearly don't want another Addazio on our own sideline acting like a maniac - but sometimes you have to get pissed at players and let them know it.

Offensive and defensive leadership is lacking.

Dungey was a team leader and his gutsy play led by example. Devito is not a team leader and his teammates openly question his decision making and execution.

Same on defense, there are no Zaire Franklins or Chris Slaytons on this defense that keep egos in check, lead by example, and raise the group’s play overall. We have many individually talented players like Alton, Trill and Cisco but none have taken up that leadership mantle so we see selfish undisciplined play all over the field and on the sidelines.

Im not letting coaching off the hook either as that area has been glaringly inadequate and holding players accountable hasn’t happened during games but the void of player leadership is the real difference I see between last year and this year since all of the coaches are the same.

I wrote a letter to Coach P after he was fired. I had developed a casual friendship with him while I was a sportswriter in Connecticut He wrote back and said, well, things probably would have been different with the addition of a few players and a (better) quarterback.

That was his honest opinion.

Vick, Michael

and we may have a 2nd national championship trophy.

My biggest question to Dino and the major issue with the team IMO is why is Taj still playing? He had 3 emotional outbursts directed at another player on the team 3 weeks in a row. Down big today he drew a PI on a ball he didn't catch and jumped up and celebrated while we are down huge... What kind of coach lets that slide and then continues to play the kid?? The entire team plays like that.
Yep

i am on record saying get used to up and down seasons with Dino (in so many words). Its the way he coaches. We will win games we shouldnt and lose games we shouldnt.

but i still have the faith that i predicted dino was going to give us 1 very special year and it would all be worth it. Last year was NOT it.

I still fully believe Dino is the man for the Syracuse University football job. THis is a tossaway. It means nothing for next year and beyond.

Yeah, I decided relatively last minute to attend the bowl game, and I’m really glad I did, because it may be the last one for another few years.

I still can’t believe that this has happened in year 4 of Dino’s tenure. It’s inexcusable to be this pathetic. It’s such a damn shame since the community really showed up this year. And now, poof, they’ll be gone again, and no one here better blame them.

At least we have shown that all it will take for us to show up is to win. I don’t think we need 10 win seasons for that.

The fans are there and they want to go to games, but the team has to show up, too.

I think with all of this, who knows what next year will bring. There’s no way to predict what is realistic for wins next year other then the hopefully “gimme” games. Are we looking at another 4-5 win season or will things start clicking next year and we get 6-8, which I think is a good season. This whole year is puzzling, to some degree. Almost impossible to predict what next year could look like even with some shakeups between coaching/players.

I disagree with this for the very simple reason that a lot of these kids who were expected to be leaders THIS year, are going to be back again next year, and more will be expected of them, not less.

There are some serious chemistry problems here. The coaches didn't suddenly get dumber, although the coaching has appeared uninspired, at least on game day.

No.

But geez guys, the point here is pretty straightforward.
The counterpoint is that it won't help much when compared to this year. Our losses have not been due to a tough schedule. Had we played LSU and Notre Dame we could point to help via scheduling. This was supposed to be a year where the schedule was our friend. Any improvement we have will have to be because the team improves.

with just last years line we are 5-3
