When Wax returns

Grant wasn’t excellent today. He was very bad except for the strip sack.
He can make some big plays but Grant's attempted tackle on NC State's last big play of the game, that was the 75 yard reception by Smothers, was just horrific. Sure there were like 3 other missed tackles on the play but Grants attempt was the worst of them all. Although Cinco's effort wasn't much better. Grants attempt was a serious olé. Hope he got seriously chewed out for that.

Play at the 9:10 mark.

Tried a little swipe at the ball with no attempt to tackle. Hope he got seriously chewed out for that.

Actually Sparrows initial tackle attempt was pretty bad as well. His issue was mistiming it and he took a bad angle that made his tackle harder to make. I think he was just half attempting to deflect the ball with his hand when he should have just let the ball get to the receiver and timed it to hit him square as soon as he caught it. Hopefully jar the ball loose or at the very least you stop him immediately. That play was super frustrating...

McDonald leads the team in tackles and had a strip tackle earlier in the game. Yup I get he isn’t the fastest but again the coaches clearly view him as a positive on the field.
I only picked on Mcdonald because of first game but he as gottenmuch better but Baron is a really go linebacker in my opinio. Fast and a knack for making plays.

As a famous basketball coach says when bench meets ass, ass tells brain dont do that again. Ass gets off bench lol

At least sparrow actually tried to tackle the guy…. Who the knows what Grant was trying to do.

Mcdonald is a good north south player not so much east and west.

What's worse is Grant stopped running in pursuit. Thankfully Duce didn't.

Next time we score to go up by 3 scores in the 4th quarter, I'm just going to bed. Even if it's a noon game.

Watching some of those running plays late. 70 Cruz was getting blown up on the Willis runs.
You’re right, a lot of guys looked pretty bad, however he faced a few stacked boxes and a few run blitzes. Hopefully we have plays to take advantage of that going forward.

Atrocious.
After the 5th rewatch, each of our 5 attempts was atrocious. Grant gets bonus points for lack of effort. Each pursued to where the dude was, not where he was going be. Each tackled high, grasping at shoulder pads, each bounced off. Atrocious. I hope film evals was brutal.

He is I see the play , I go make the play guy.
He is not a of thats the play, let me recover and make a play guy

The good thing is you can't hide in film reviews. My guess the defensive staff had some pretty "direct and constructive " feedback to Grant and others on that play. If the players operate with a goal of getting better, that doesn't happen again. And that's good by the staff and players.

Yeah, that was not a good sequence for Grant.

Rewatching that play, the other thing that caught my eye was #6 for NCST who was trailing the play. He blew by three of our DBs during the pursuit up the sideline trying to make a block. It looked like we were running in sand. Speed is an issue.

Our secondary is slow. It's our biggest problem. Barnes will help.

My blind guess is he plays 50% of his usual snaps on defense and it takes 2-3 games to get back to his full snap count.

It's a heck of a game to come back from an injury and I agree, he'll be a situation player until he's ready.

Rewatch both willis runs and yeah they were stacking but 1 on 1 blocking in a run block so u should be driving your much smaller man backwords and 72 and 74 were blown back 4 yds straight bye linebackers. Do we not teach downhill run blocking. How in gods name do u get blown back by smaller guys 3-4 yds back. We gotta get walabaugh in the game more for them guards. Give Hornsby a shot too. wth

Need to hire a run game coordinator or get an O-line coach that can teach up both
