This is A Syracuse Women's Basketball thread, yet, there are very few posts about Women's Basketball on here! Where are all the fans who are passionate about Women's Basketball ? I continue to try to help raise the awareness that we have two hoops teams on this campus and they both need our support. I live in South Carolina and get up to Columbia to see my home girl Dawn Staley and the Gamecocks play as often as possible. Every game is sold out! When Dawn's team plays, it is a must see event. Yes, it is easy to say...the fans are coming because they are winning! It wasn't always that way, she built that program into a winner. Coach Jack is trying to do the same thing here at Syracuse...and she is the one who can do it, but she needs our help! Steps we can take:

1A: Come out to the games and support the team with your presence. They need to see us and hear us in the stands!
1B: They are in desperate need of our Financial Support! There are multiple ways you can do this! Everyone can't write a check for a million dollars, but everyone is capable of donating whatever you feel comfortable giving to the Coach's Fund. This money can be used by the team to support vital activities necessary to support
the players and team that fall outside of the existing budget. NIL and collective financial support is huge as it relates to recruiting players now. Look at the state of
our current recruiting, we are not even in the conversation with players who would normally be interested in the Cuse, but because we can't match the money other
schools are offering, top players are cancelling campus visits. Look at our current roster, and next year's potential roster, notice something? We have a huge gap
at Center. We have not recruited a 6-4 to 6-5 post player in the past two recruiting cycles, with the exception of one player from Greece, who was not quite ready
for ACC play. Outstanding players right in our backyard, are not even interested in talking to us after the money conversation ends. This is a huge problem.
Some posters are blaming this on the staff and insinuating about their recruiting chops, and that is similar to the proverbial dog barking up the wrong tree.

2. Demand better media coverage of the team. Why are there so few articles or coverage of the women's team? I have asked this question before and a prominent
Syracuse media personality responded with the fact that when the number of looks are evaluated for Syracuse Women's basketball articles, there are not enough
people even reading the articles, which I find to be very sad.

Women's College basketball is experiencing a huge resurgence in interest and TV viewership and We are a part of that wonderful sport, but for us to capitalize
on this trend, we have to strike while the iron is hot. Come out to the games is a very easy ask to fulfill. We have a very exciting team, the games are fun and as good as any men's game you will ever watch. Support the team with your financial gifts. Our young women need you!

My observation is that Syracuse “fans”, by and large, support winning teams, especially those who play exciting offense.
Also, I think it was a HUGE mistake to move the women to the Dome. There aren’t enough attendees to make a true Dome environment

Winning teams? This Syracuse women's team the past two seasons won at least 20 games each season and had a 3,000 point scorer on the roster!! Is that not winning and offense? Also, Manley Field House is no longer set up for hoops, where would you suggest the women play? 15,000 in the dome for the women's team would be acceptable, we are not talking about 20 K +

IMO, what the women’s program needs are more active fans and more NIL money so we can sign more highly rated post players!

If we could average just over 5,000 fans a game, we’d be in the top 15 teams attendance wise in the nation. We currently average about 3,000 a game. Only 2 teams averaged over 10,000 a game - South Carolina and UConn. Even U of Iowa with Caitlyn Clark didn’t average 10,000 a game. Louisville was the only ACC team in the top 20. All the other teams averaged less than 4,300 a game. The WNBA only had 2 teams average over 10,000 a game this past season, Indiana Fever and NY Liberty. Hope this era is just a start for better attendance and attention for women’s games.

when you put it that way, 5,000 is obtainable, it's too bad we couldn't build off the momentum of the Final 4. Then the program imploded under the psychopath Hillsman.FLJ has had to rebuild from ground zero.

I just think our coaches need to recruit to a level just above what they did at Buffalo. Which they have in some respects Kiera Scott and Shy Hawkins, Jasmyn Cooper... I don't like the excuse that because our NIL is low we aren't able to recruit girls here, seems like an excuse. I really hope we get Madison Francis, you can't let a Semi local girl not come here. Protect your home turf.

Francis chose Mississippi State… after being recruited by Cuse since the 8th Grade! The lack of NIL isn’t an excuse, it is real! Players are asking for deals and comparing deals. They don’t even want to talk to you now unless the money is right. Yes, I agree, SU will still be able to recruit players, but we will have to aim a little lower than the ESPN top 30…. Look at our misses this year and where the players were ranked… and where they went …. Or are considering! Have you looked at this? It will tell you the story very clearly! NIL has completely changed the landscape of recruiting, and it has not been favorable to us.

Iowa sold out every home game.

"At 14,914 fans per game last season, Iowa has broken the Big Ten Conference single-season attendance average record for the second consecutive season."

But I agree with your overall point that if SU could get a bump, we'd be looking pretty good in the overall picture.

I might have referenced an incorrect article but the nerd in me did look it up before posting. :p

NIL is about to change in a big way. I think it will benefit WBB the most at big basketball schools. Especially at schools like SU if the funds are used correctly. FLJ and Co. just need to continue to show why Syracuse needs to invest in this team.

Admittedly, I rarely come into the women's board, however, the title of this post caught my eye on the main page. Interesting timing given I gave women's hoops another try just last night.

I figured Game 5 of the WNBA finals. The final game of the finals in any sport is typically must see TV. I figured I would be seeing two of the best teams in the league going at it for all the marbles. I forced myself to watch the first quarter, kept it on during the second quarter but was looking at YouTube at the same time, and turned it off at half time. As a casual observer, I just couldn't get into it. Unfortunately, this is the general theme for me for women's hoops. I just don't enjoy what I'm watching. If what I watched was the pinnacle of the women's game, it doesn't really motivate me to seek out other games to watch. This is a trend as I'm not basing my thoughts just on last night's game, but generally come away with the same thoughts when I do periodically tune in to a women's college or WNBA game.

I do enjoy watching other women's sports. Any time I'm flipping channels and I come across women's softball, I usually end up watching the whole game (especially during the college world series). It's fun to watch. Unfortunately, I rarely find women's hoops entertaining. I say rarely because I have liked watching certain players over the years. Sheryl Swoopes, Chamique Holdsclaw, and yes, Caitlin Clark come to mind.

Kudos to you, Dr. Bill, for your high energy for the program. I will try to catch the women's team on TV when they are on. Unfortunately, I'm not a local to attend in person. Go Orange!

I'll be watching every game like I do with mens BB and FB, I don't usually go up for the mens sports but do for the women's games because they're just so much easier for me to get in and out of the game and they seem shorter.

I know there isn't much buzz with the team but we did lose one of the best players in the history of women's college basketball. Could be a tough year, but I know Coach Jack will have them ready.

Understand. I actually found that same link when I was googling. But at the bottom it says "Source: National Collegiate Athletic Association, 2017–2018"

I sponsored a hole for their recent golf tournament to raise funds for NIL.
I live in AZ and have had a floor season ticket for 8 year. I only have 1 seat, but free to anyone who wants to use it if it is still available.
I watch every game, and often travel with the team. Last year I was in Vegas and had Thanksgiving dinner with the team.
I hope to go to the Stanford and Cal game this year, but depends on some health things going on.

Good luck with your wishes for fans to step up. That is not snark. I truly hope it happens and I watch all the games, follow recruiting, and post in many threads.

However, if it was a true priority for SU they would find a way to funnel money to a booster(s) to turnaround and donate back as nil if that’s what it took. If you’re not cheating, you’re not trying. FLJ would not condone this…but she wouldn’t need to know.

I now return you to our regularly scheduled showing of Blue Chips.

Exactly this

Until Syracuse puts an emphasis on it, it ain’t going to gain much traction

With that said, I bought seasons for the first time this season to support FLJ

Sadly, I haven't been to a woman's game in the past. I am planning on trying to get to a few games this year. Any suggestions on where to find convenient parking?

Please Go!! They are very talented and the games are entertaining. support the team with a donation to the Coach's fund, this team needs some financial support as well.

There’s usually pretty ample parking for the women’s games.I have parked in Oakwood cemetery next to the campus and walked to the dome. There‘s probably even closer parking. You’ll enjoy it and will be able to get great seats for the game.

We also park in Oakwood. I believe the University offers free parking for the women's games in the IAG garage, next to the VA garage.
