We had that discussion a few months ago.

Yesterday, I had a moment of insight on the issue.

We played four RBs. We played at least three NGs. We played a lot of DBs.

We play a lot of DEs.

We used our second team Kicker.

We have depth. We can play second and third guys and not lose all that much.

We could not do that with what Robinson left.

And it's not even close.

We had NO depth until HCDMs fourth year.

Definitely more depth but you must forget some things.

Some depth was there at RB, WR, TE even the DL. Look it up.

Depth is very good, no doubt. I also think philosophically this staff believes in rotating a lot of guys and keeping their lineups fresh.

Say what you will about the QBs we have now, Greggers would have loved to have any one of them.

Some of the depth "problems" were as a result of Marrone showing people the door.

A few may not have been good enough, but some simply weren't his kind of people (see: no discipline) and others dismissed for bad grades.

Not saying it's all on Marrone, but he definitely had something to do with the depth problems early on in his tenure.

Marrone's problem at depth were self created and I'm assuming necessary to change culture. You can't lose the equivalent of 2 graduating classes in one year and make it all up in the next the next year. A guy at work and I spent a great deal of time after the purge and predicted it would be year 4 until we had a coherent 2 deep roster.

I think marrone was left some good players with very little depth. Essentially 17 to 20 guys. I think Shafer was left some very good unproven talent with a ton of depth. A full 2 deep.

Gee Bees.

I don't remember that to be the case.

I'll look it up, but I don't think so.

I don't think the guys who left added anything.

That's why they left.

Yes, the Mike Mele's, Lamar Middleton's and Tucker Baumbach's weren't going to cut it.

My only beef with Maronne was he didn't recruit any playmakers, especially at wide receiver and quarterback. They found athletes to play defense and its obvious when you watch this defense play.
exactly

Yes marrone was no better than Robinson at wr and he was worse at QB. Remember Sales, Lemon, and Nassib were all GROB recruits.

Let's not forget that the loss of Flemming to start the season had a serious impact on the WR performance this year. We wouldn't have been the same team last year if we lost either Sales or Lemon to start the season. Broyld was brought here by DM albeit for a different position but so was Kevin Johnson and that turned out pretty good. We are still a year or two away from being able to really judge DM as a recruiter IMO. Just because he wasn't able to reload the QB/WR positions in his first year or two doesn't mean we don't have some young talent that might blossom in another year or two.

that and he's a stupid jerk who ruins my sundays

ask the 25 guys gently told they would never see the field.

I'll agree with everything but DL. We were ok the first two years, but there were no young guys in the pipeline preparing to step in once those guys graduated, and it showed in the losing streak that knocked us out of a bowl in '11. We now have guys contributing from sophomores to seniors with the ability to redshirt first year guys.

The weakness of the D-Line started to show in during the 2nd half of the 2010 season. UCONN, BC, Rutgers, Louisville ran down our throats because Tribbey/Lewis/Perkins never knocked the OLine back.

did anyone disagree with that? it is night and day... we were 1 of the worst 3 or 4 BCS schools and bottom 20 d1a schools.

we are a solid 40-50 teams ahead of where Grob left us.

I think Bees disagrees to a certain extent.

show him this...

yes we were given lemon, pugh, nassib, and chandler jones - but they dont become those players without Marrone and his coaches.

Not sure what that video has to do with the topic or what I posted.

i have no idea what you posted...

but in regards to cupboard being bare (grob vs marrone which i was under the impression was what the topic was). that video is self explanatory.

Read the whole thread. If you didn't, why comment on something I may have posted. In fact I agreed there is more depth now.
