But that is exactly what some people say some of the kids who intend on leaving early (after 1 or 2 years) should do. They say that if a kid doesn't want to go to college(i.e. only plans on one year), then he should go to the D-league. They say that the D-league is a viable option. I think we both agree that it is not.I'm not sure I would advocate a guy playing in the D-League as opposed to college.
Donte was a very good player who was in the right place at the wrong time. His family circumstances not only forced him to miss out on playing on some great SU teams that could have won NCs, they forced him to go pro before he was ready and his career is probably never going to recover from that.Late to the party here... but here's my two cents. Donte was on a horrid team. There was no one else. He had the green light (which most folks here hated him for). He was a frigging freshman! With no supporting cast. If he had stayed (which he did not do because of seriously bad family circumstances), he would have been one of the best Orangemen ever. And he loved SU as much as anyone who ever played here (e.g, all the times he's come back). Let's hear a little love for Donte.
I'll always be a huge, huge Southerland fan. Such a unique, fiery player. Clutch performer with awesome range. I was shocked to see him go undrafted.
Here's hoping he proves a lot of people wrong in the NBA.
