This is always a fun topic, but the tweet that kicked it off is really wrong.
The SU seal was the defacto athletics logo for at least a decade prior to the Corporate S being unveiled. Just look at the '87 final four. They used the seal.
Obviously, the elongated S hoops logo was used from the mid-90s to early 2000s.
I always felt like that one should have been morphed into the SU athletics logo. We could have replaced the basketball with an orange circle and let it be used for all sports. That's still my favorite.
However, if Gross only did one good thing, it's that he reinstated the block S. It's not sexy, but it works. That it replaced the ghastly interlocking SU is all the better. What a freakin' monstrosity that thing was, and the hoops unis it adorned were just as awful.
