Who is QB1 v Pitt

Hes # 5 for all time HS passing yards for players in Massachusetts.

Noone on that top 10 list played major D1 football FWIW.
Luke MacPhail got a lot of snaps in the last 2 spring games, and he looked composed, relaxed, confident, and competent. He didn't look like a walk on, IMO. I was really hoping they would replace CDRW w/ MacPhail in the 4th quarter after CDRW was throwing so many picks and INCs, and not moving the team all game.

Then it was a forced issue when CDRW hurt himself at the end. (Yes he hurt himself by his own feet dragging on the turf - really bad throwing form.) But no, they bring CDRW in yet again, so he can throw yet another pick. Really one of the all-time worst performances by an SU QB, and against a bad team in BC.

Clearly the staff thinks MacPhail is ahead of Davis.

BTW, Eric Dungey said that Villari should be the starting QB after the VaTech game.

Culpepper 2.0
Culpepper was an inspirational story but his QB play is in no way a model of what we should aspire to, even in dire circumstances.

Then we wouldn’t. Have anyone who can catch a ball.

Ok, but I like Villari... Seems to actually care and not just care about strutting around after a play...

Dino is gonna do whatevs as the ship goes down, so I am well aware it doesn't matter.

No,no,no,no.

Who was the walkon QB who led us to victory in Shafer's last game? I can't remember his name, I think he was a California kid. We actually have had decent luck with walkon QBs, Officer Zach Mahoney played in so many games that his compiled career stats starting 12 games would mean he was a starting QB for the equivalent of one whole season.

Mahoney started against BC in 2015.

Villari isn't the long term answer at QB. Why derail the positive development we're seeing from him at the TE spot? He already used his freebie transfer - good chance he'll be one of the better returning players on offense next season.

There's nothing long-term right now with our coach being fired.

Sure there is. Not all 85 guys are going to be gone.

That's the new coach's responsibility and it would be good if we got one by 3 weeks from now if at all possible.

Didn’t we have a walkon named Clayton Somebody, this big kid out of California who won a game for us late in the year, I could swear we did during the Shafer regime. We had him in addition to Zack.

Clayton Welch. Attended SU from 2017-19.

Didn't play until 2019. Only had 1 start at the end of the year vs Wake. That was the OT game where Trill Williams ripped the ball out of the Wake guys arm and went 95 yards.

I mean, you’re already on the Internet. These things are knowable:

He could leave (if he graduates) so it might not matter. Having 2 years to play TE elsewhere could make him a hot commodity. I hope he stays because I like him a lot. Maybe letting him play QB this year gives some good will? He can live his dream and then go back to TE.

Did we see the next Dungey or Shrader in Villari yesterday? He can throw the ball. We now know he can run it. He’s got size to withstand some hits. And he’s got two more years left. He could be the leader in the clubhouse heading in to next year as far as QB1 goes. Give him a summer to shake off the rust in the throwing game with Beck and who knows, maybe we have something here.
