Which players do you anticipate will improve the most during their remaining time at SU? Potential realized after college does not count. My ranking:
1) BMK - with lack of physical strength is not impacting the game on either end of the floor. I expected more of him this year but still think he will ultimately get there. Love his motor.
2)MCW - wet behind the ears. will develop into a floor general and improve 3 point shooting. Thought about putting him first but he is already too good.
3)RC - non factor now, should be very good PF by end of sophomore year but will reach potential post SU
4)CJF - my favorite current player, has already started to blossom
5)FM- NBA body with NBA paycheck coming
6)DW- last game not withstanding is already playing at a high level and do not anticipate him graduating
7)JS- I of course hold out hope but outside of a few brilliant games in the future I just do not see it happening
8&9)KJ &SJ - close if not already at ceiling
10)Mook - will never get the chance
11)TC- can't be determined with no starting point

Brandon Triche? Lump at #6 with DW, or at 8, 9 with KJ and Scoop?

...Triche is not at his ceiling...he has demonstrated he can score 20 pts, 5 assts...as long as he is aggressive and assertive...his growth is mental...he has oppty to be best player in his senior year...so Triche is at 6...with terrific upside or an 8 if psyche does not improve

Interesting -- many guys come in raw &/or lanky (BMK is an extreme case) and improve as they add strength and tone up skills (Andy Rautins). Or just raw in skills (Melo) and maybe out of shape (Melo). Or maybe players didn't get opportunities to play right away (several examples).

Brandon came in fully developed, good skills, big scorer in HS, got a starting role day 1.

Not sure I can think of other SU examples where a player started day one, and the issue boiled down to "psyche" or "confidence" or willingness to be aggressive.

Triche is definitely at his ceiling. He's not going to get any better as a basketball player, the only thing he can improve on is consistency. We've already seen what he is capable of.

Time left at SU huh?
  1. MCW
  2. Rak
  3. Fab
  4. Dion
  5. Keita
  6. CJ
  7. Cooney
  8. KJ, Scoop, Triche

I bash Triche most of the time however to say he is at his high point is nuts. JB even said after the last game the kid doesn't realize how good he can be. I look for Triche at conference time to step up and be are best player moving forward. If he doesn't and Joseph doesn't pick it up we are in trouble. If we hope to reach the final four we need Joseph and Triche to light it up no matter how you want to spin it. I think CJ is a double double machine and him and Waiters will always be solid but I don't think there the last shot guys on our team that's just my opinion.

You have to measure relative improvement in groups.

The three groups that I see are:

1. Core Six - FM, CJ, BT, SJ, KJ, and DW. Of these, almost obviously, Fab has the most room to grow with Dion second. Next, I would put CJ and BT. Lastly, probably not much additional upside from KJ & SJ.

2. Rotation Players - BMK and JS - both can get much better. I think BMK has more upside as he gets stronger. Not sure with James if he has a mental/confidence issue when he plays against better teams or if there is some limitation to his skillset as competition intensifies.

3. Rookies - MCW and RAK - Obviously, as rooks they have much more room for improvement compared to players in the first two groups.

A more interesting question might be - who will improve the most this season, then you can compare everybody on an equal footing.

In terms of this season improvement, my vote would go to Dion as likely to improve the most. My next three candidates might be Fab, CJ, and Brandon.

I would argue being consistent is a huge part of one's ability as a basketball player.

For this season I think FAB has the most upside only because MCW will not be given as much time floor time by JB in Big East play.
