So anyways...Coach Boeheim will eventually retire...someday. Who replaces him?

Hop is a boss recruiter and has so many connections and loyalty from high school and AAU coaches and contacts in the Northeast. As long as he turns it around at Washington, I don’t see how he doesn’t get the job over Red and Gmac.

Agree but I voted gmac because if he turns it around he may not want to come back east. That was my angle

I voted Red. As a Prediction, not a Preference.

• Hard to see how Hopkins has enough of a Post-SU resumé to 'hop' over the guys we still have.
• Hard to see how GMac vaults over Red in terms of service time. And if he did, how do you make that move in this era of race (hyper-)sensitivity?
• Hard to see how you have a long-serving alum staff, but dismiss that, fire the lot of them, to grab the next hot commodity who probably only made a splash at a small school for a year or two.

The second and third issues would require a very bold AD, and after 50 years of JB with good results, i'm not sure there are enough safe rationales to go outside. Loyalty is a thing. Continuity is a thing. Familiarity is a thing. I don't necessarily believe all those things are the best things in our interest, but they don't not make sense. Unfortunately, i don't think the familiarity move will bring us the impact changes we need.

Gmac, don’t want him to be but think it will be. With Dnic in the fold, JB finishes this year, then the year after he retires right before the season or early season so Gmac can slide right in.

The field.

Dear god, please be the field.

Now - IF after an exhaustive and thorough national search, it’s determined that one of:
Hop, Red, GMac, Buddy, Buddy’s kid -
is the best coaching hire Syracuse can make, then so be it.

But, to purposely and needlessly limit ourselves to former Cuse players is stupid and shortsighted.

A million likes for this. I just can't imagine hiring for such a high profile position and limiting yourself to candidates based on where they graduated college from. Would anyone do that in their real life?

It’s funny that so many people mention this. He lived in Syracuse for most of his entire adult life. His recruiting connections and relationships are all in the Northeast and up and down the East coast. It takes years and years to build that kind of network. Most importantly, Syracuse is a significantly better basketball job than Washington.

I think Mrs. Hop and the kids make the call (assuming he is still at UW when and if the SU call comes.) Does she want to come back for her family. Will the kids be here or out west somewhere? At this time, money in the bank, the job is secondary to those issues.

A trick question. The coach when JB retires or in 2044 are not the same person.

2044 is 23 years away. Hop is 51 now, he would be 74 in 2044. Whoever succeeds JB will have long retired by then.

Hot Take: This thread was played out 5 years ago and everyone has repeated themselves at least 100 times. Bots could come up with something more original that what will be posted here.

Should we start a thread on if JB will play some M2M this year? How about if the media will cut us some slack on "never leaving the state of NY to play OOC games for once"? What about Barry Baker? Maybe JB will play 10 guys this year in the rotation? Did Juli pick out JB's wardrobe? What player from the 1926 title team be of most help to this year's team (it's Vic Hanson) and would JB start him over JGIII?

BTW, my vote is for the field or Hop. I just can't see Red or GMac getting it without HC experience.
