I originally thought that the handling of Carney makes sense is IF he (and possibly his parents) didn't want to burn his redshirt because he's portaling at year's end and that was made clear to the coaches.

The only question in that case is why dabble playing him at all if he's outta here regardless?? Maybe Fran wanted to see what he had, but a couple series a game where you don't let him even throw certainly doesn't do that.

I am not concerned about Carney's redshirt but Carney wants to redshirt. HCFB has acknowledged that Carney wants to redshirt. Instead of saving it and playing him for a full game, we wasted that lone remaining game on one drive where he did next to nothing on it (which was by design). It really only makes sense to do that if HCFB knows Carney is redshirting and transferring at the end of the season. Otherwise, it was a colossal mistake to waste his remaining game on a singular drive in the midst of huge blowout.

If he won't be here next year, then you might as well see what you've got on the roster next game. If he is going to be on the roster next year, it was an enormous waste of his remaining game and may be a sign that our head coach and staff could be morons. I'm certainly hoping for the former.

None of us know what the deal is with Carney and how he was used..or not used...to intimate that our head coach and staff may be Morons is starting to sound Conspiracy Theory..ISH! Let's not put this in the same category of who shot Kennedy!

If I were coach, I'd take the key from the facility and tell him to go ahead and enter the transfer portal.

Whatever the redshirt thought was, I don't see the point of playing him in a game where
Filardi is passing for 39 yards, and putting him in to rush 3 times, then going back to Filardi.
I don't see the point of watching Filardi throw more TDs to the other team than he has directed
the Orange to in two games, putting Carney in to throw 4 passes for 12 yards, rush 3 times for 0,
and then go back to Filardi. That makes no sense. If, IF, you think that Carney can be a QB going
forward, then maybe you use what Doug Marrone did 15 years ago when he took the time to
give Ryan Nassib some time every game to play a bit while using Paulus as his primary QB. Different
situation, yes, but once Angeli got hurt, and it was pretty clear Collins wasn't going to take SU
anywhere, may as well. Then you either have an evaluation on him for next year, or he has tape to
show so he can leave. He has an HS resume that suggests he can be a college QB. I'll take 10K yards
and 130 TDs passing, plus 4 state championships, in any Texas level, over what most HS QBs will
accomplish in NYS. But as I posted under comments with Filardi, I don't think the coaching staff is
helping out QBs not named Angeli with their playcalling, and the OL coaching is not helping out
with blocking for the run game or pass blocking. If you're not gonna fix those, you are going to be
limited to basically needing a QB who is experienced, really smart, really good at reading the field,
and really good at getting rid of the ball in a hurry, or really good at running for his life. Every other
QB is going to struggle.

I've got a better question. You offered up that BYU is high level D1 program because they may make the playoffs this year, with a freshman QB. Insinuating that had Carney had chosen BYU, maybe he would be the freshman leading them to the playoffs.

Do you think BYU cares about losing Carney to Syracuse, after they beat out Alabama, Georgia, Texas A&M, Miami, Michigan, Notre Dame and Oregon for Bear Bachmeier? Bear may be leading a team to the playoffs while Luke rides pine for a 3 win team. Offer lists don't lie.

Gosh, somehow I'm getting the impression you don't really think much of Luke Carney.

The fact that Jakhari Williams has an on field ROI of 0.0 has not gotten enough attention. Simply catastrophic. I’m sure he’s a nice young man and a good practice arm when healthy, but it’s a results oriented business.

Whiffing on him and Ricki left it in the hands of 3 freshmen…and how that story was going to go was obvious.

I guess they need to carry 8 QBs with minimum 3 upperclassmen.
