Why does this team take a half to play d

D wasnt the issue imo its rebounding effort

They are good to really good when they play with effort on d, but it seems to take a half.
You know, we had a lot of bad first halves in 2002-03.

One of the announcers said we do a lot of pregame prep and analysis and scouting and whatnot…. But, I swear, it always looks like we come in with just the most vague understanding of the opponent and it takes a bunch of threes in our faces to recognize who and how to defend those individuals.

did we as a fact?

I felt like we pretty much always came out strong. missou at home and the championship game specifically.

I only remember okie state being an outlier.
It’s Mizzou.

WVU immediately comes to mind. There were a number of games where we fell behind and had to press. That was McNeil time.

Ah…you said “we had a lot of bad first halves”.

I do remember McNeil time falling behind.

I don’t remember getting behind early frequently like this current team does.

I don’t see much correlation between the two teams like you do, I guess.

I know what I said. I stand by it.

We should probably give some credit to the other team. They also have coaches and I assume those coaches look at film and come up with a game plan to beat the zone they see on film. They use that game plan until our coaches adjust and then the D catches up. It’s not always that players aren’t trying or aren’t tough enough.

I thought for most of the second half it was the most intensity on D that I’ve seen in quite some time. We didn’t rebound well but there was effort. If they bring that kind of effort for a full 40 minutes all year, we could find ourselves in decent shape at the end of the year. Not saying we make the tourney, but we could at least be in the mix.

We had great comebacks against Pitt and ND at home. Part of that is they were really good teams that destroyed our zone, and we went man and came back.

We also were down to Rutgers most of the game at home in the last game of the regular season. I remember those 3.

Maybe stop doing trick dunks in warmups and get ready to play?

Maybe come out pressing just for a few possesions to get them amped up?

I think we're just slow to how the other guys are attacking the zone.

When Gerry stole the ball at the end of the first half of the Mizou game and scored, I thought, we've got a player here.

Quinn Snyder was so mad. Amazing reaction to a great play.

That was the era where we basically never lost to non conference teams like that. I believe we beat Missouri in 00 too, Wisconsin in 99, Michigan in 98, Ohio State in 00, beat Michigan State in 01, 03, and 04, beat GT by 35 in 02, beat Wake Forest in 01, Indiana in 98….we owned the nonconference back then.

I would like to see jb throw a press on when the guys seem flat. A press changes tempo and can often " Wake" a team up

Because sometimes we don't need defense to win. Sometimes the opposing team is just that bad. So we don't play defense from the start to save the energy.
