Wildhack on Orange Nation

What does anyone expect him to say? The one thing he knows is that now is the cheapest out with only one year remaining on Dino's contract. He can't let him coach next year without an extension or recruiting will die. I suppose it is possible to do some kind of phony face-saving deal with virtually no buyout but that serves little purpose. He knows what he has to do.

Letting go of a coach should be done late in season or at the end of the year. After a bowl game is way to late.
Exactly. Before the last game is the ideal time for everyone coach gets to job hunt assistants get to show themselves off for a new job.

Think this is when Shafer was let go.

All this seems so familiar given the last several years of JAB’s tenure. I’ve seen this movie before. By that it seems the AD and the university seem content to bleed out the fan base.
I always liked Dino and was extremely excited when he arrived, have never said a negative word about him until this week. But it is clear to me reluctantly, he is not the guy to elevate the program as reflected by his record and the trend line.
As a wise man once said, “you are who your record says you are.”

Parents weekend usually is good for a few K.
Historically we do a little better in November.
Many tickets were sold before we hit the abyss.

Hope they can do something positive to get crowd going early. If it’s anything like last few it will be like the spring game attendance at halftime. Hope springs eternal, here in “Binghampton “

Ticket sales have past Clemson ???

Lets hope so

Agree 144%.

Yeah, the bowl game result - regardless of whether it's great, awful, or anywhere in between -
shouldn't matter at all in the firing decision matrix.

IF you want him gone, you do so immediately after the final game, or even earlier -
waiting til after the bowl game result dramatically limits your options for a replacement.

If we look listless and get crushed by BC (which, I surely do NOT want to see happen, but it might), should result in that being his final game as HC. Given that it would then be 5 straight awful L's.
And also make it incredibly unlikely that even a bowl berth could be salvaged under his watch.
I think Dino is coaching for his Job Friday. If we get blown out he is gone. We win he lives for another game. Close loss he keeps him for another week.

I think you're probably right.
I think they come out and win relatively easily

From player quotes I think there's urgency and I may be wearing orange colored glasses, but for at least this week, I think they get it done

Nobody is mad about the record. We could all live with 4-4 if the losses were 7-14pts.

Getting blown out before HT is unacceptable and a consistent sign the team is not prepared each game.

The Clemson game was fine. If we played similar vs UNC, FSU, VA Tech people would be disappointed at 4 straight losses but not asking for Dino to be fired quite yet. 6-6 sure. 7-5 is a gray area. But not right now.

The AD anwsers to the board of trustees.. If there is no money to buy out a contract he cant willy nilly just do it no matter what fans think or want.

If you ran a business and had a few bad employees and you fire them and now you cant run your business do you do it and close shop?
Every coach that gets fired has a year to go on their contract. You can't let a coach have a lame duck year. No ass't worth their salt would stay under those conditions and it would be impossible to recruit. So, there is your choice. Extend him or fire him. As for how much money we have, I have no idea. Neither does anyone else because Syracuse doesn't open their books for us to see. I do believe that they are liars however. By claiming they are poor, they want someone else to pay off their mistakes.

and that was the expectation that JW laid out 2 years ago at the end of 2021 season but most don't want to hear it, listen to it, remember it or whatever you want to call it. Agree with it or disagree with it. I do agree that the last 4 weeks have been horrendous and completely ridiculous really but there is still a chance to right the ship and until there isn't I am not sure what people expect JW to say. It will play itself out for sure

Indeed. However, IMO, it's these words of his where the larger problem lies. When you have leadership setting a bar so low, this is what you get. Nowadays, getting to a bowl (at least in minimalist fashion as we are talking about here) is hardly a significant feat. Especially, when getting 6 total wins is the threshold, regardless of whether you've a pathetic losing conference record of 2-6. Think about that.

Moreover, Wildhack knows he's on record (get to a bowl and all's good so to speak) publicly, and realizes his already questionable credibility would take a further blow if Dino does get to a bowl and he fires him anyways.

Regardless of how incredibly embarrassing for the university, et al these past 4 games have been, especially while being broadcast nationally for the entire viewing sports public to witness, he knows that the pickle he finds himself in today is of his own doing and creation. At his age, he is of the generation that one's word still actually stands for something, regardless of how low of bar he set.

I agree that Dino is not the long term answer, but I am amazed at the notion that our fan base can’t stomach topping out at 7 or 8 wins a year. We haven’t won that many games a year consistently in a generation.

Can we at least try it for 5-8 years? I would love to travel to bowl games again every year.

Should a coach be fired after a bowl game?

Should a coach be fired before a bowl game?

Should a coach be fired during the regular season?
Steve I really believe if they lose badly on Friday night Dino will be gone Saturday.
The University doesn't need a 4th embarrassment, especially at home.
