Wildhack retiring July 1

Walk me off the ledge insiders, there is no way we end up keeping red another year to try and "ease the transition" right?

The biggest problem I have with the timing is that it could negatively impact our coaching search. If we haven't hired an AD quickly, a coach might not want to come here, not knowing who their future boss will be. And if the timeline is really July 1st they don't seem to be in a rush to hire a new AD unless they already have one and they are just waiting it out.

I’m going to wager the conversations around all of this and how they can manage expectations with making it clear who the future leaders will be during the hiring of a new coach is organized and not going through chaos of any sort with this announcement.

Is JB still all in on Autry? He’s been quiet lately.

We talk often about the stress that coaches have had to deal with regarding the astronomical changes in their individual college sport, many who made the decision to even leave the profession than deal with the revolution in this new sports world.
It’s amazing if you think about it, how much more the job and new stresses have changed for AD’s who deal with the entire breadth of collegiate sports in the decade he will have been here. John, thank you for all you’ve done for your alma mater.

Timing is extremely strange.

In May of last year, Wildhack was appointed to the NCAA Men's Basketball Committee. Appointments are for five years, and his tenure would have run through 2030 (it still may, not sure if you can be a part of it as a retired person).

This leads me to believe that something changed between then and now. Maybe I'm wrong, but why would you take the appointment if you knew you were going to retire?
