Wildhack retiring July 1

This is not great timing. Leaves our basketball team in limbo. Who makes decision to fire. Who makes decision on new coach. New coach won’t want to come on with no plan for the AD.

Think this was announced now to find an AD prior to the process of the next basketball coach. But now these are tight timelines.

Some speculation the future AD is already in house, hope that’s not the case.

The new AD had better not be in house. We need to clean house 100 percent and rebuild. The last decade has been rough.

Would not surprise me if it's the woman they hired from Pitt. Who, by the way, got fired.

Even if the new AD fires AA on Day 1 you aren’t getting a quality successor in mid-July. All those roles get filled by end of April.

The Basketball coaching transition will have to happen under JW still. No way they can wait until July 1st. So I imagine business will go forward as usual until July 1st, meaning he will be firing Red and hiring the replacement.

He can make the change before he retires.

BoT gonna allow that? I hope so. School needs to remove red and they have their excuse now to make it less painful for incoming admin. You don’t leave a turd sandwich for next guy to deal with.

I suspect he’s gonna be busy w transitioning stuff.

Which also gives the new AD and Chancellor cover, in case the new hire doesn't pan out.

That said - I REALLY, REALLY hope they nail the Red replacement hiring.
We've been wandering in the wilderness as a hoops program for a decade now.

I'm sure JW in interviews may have indicated he was retiring soon, but publicly announcing retirement may not do any favors for a national search, so I'm wondering if he was waiting until he already had our next HC locked up...

Jeff Goodman mentioning Hodgson as a potential candidate is one of two things:

Hodgson wants the job and that's a back channel to express interest.

He's a serious candidate on Syracuse side and his name goes into the public and fan sphere.

Either way it seems like the shortlist is probably firmed up.

Give Autry one more year to prove himself while the administration transitions. The new regime can make the hire next year if necessary.
