Wildhack retiring July 1

Mike Tirico multitasking? With Lally’s involvement here, does this only further increase the stock of Bryan Hodgson being the next basketball coach?

Mike’s name being on the committee leads me believe that the Chancellor search is pretty much wrapped up, as he was on that search committee.

Mike Haynie’s name not being there makes me go hummmm.

I think Lally being so connected and involved cements Hodgson in my opinion. Hope it’s all just a formality.

Not sure it means anything. They haven’t announced a new chancellor yet so they’re not going to put his or anyone potential hires name on there until it’s announced.

Do you think a new AD hire is going to want the search committee to choose the AD’s new BB coach? Not saying it might not help but whomever the AD is might not even like hodgson is a choice.

I think Lally’s influence is going to play a major factor no matter if it’s Wildhack or whoever the new AD is.

When are we changing our name to Lally University
Better than weitsman! Lally cares about the university . Guys like him and Steve Barnes are real stewards.

Be happy he cares so much about the school. Boosters who want to shake the cash is their MO. It self serving helps all. That committee looks fantastic as it’s a wide swath of interests and opinion and perspective

I’m optimistic w all this

Lyke might have been the plan at one point but best laid plans change, Until it is a done deal, it is not a done deal. Now you have the Pitt women's basketball thing. I think that they moved on from Heather. Next person up...

Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate all they do. But, until recently, donors largely moved in silence, named a building, and weren’t so hands on or, if they were, donors were very discreet about it. I can’t remember in 3 decades hearing about any donor until Lally and AW got involved. I was close with one big donor (RIP) and his contributions were immense over the years but you would never know it publicly.

There’s not an AD worth hiring that’s going to take a new job and have to defer to a donor in who’s hired for the BB coach.

The new AD won’t be the one hiring the new basketball coach, most likely. The new coach will need to be in place before July.

That works out in the new AD’s favor. If the coach works out, they have nothing to worry about. If the coach doesn’t work out, they don’t take any of the blame and get to fire him and pick their guy.

And NIL money is absolutely a factor in HC hiring decisions. That doesn’t mean the big donor gets to pick who they want and that’s if. But it would be malpractice for an AD not to consider NIL money in the hiring decision.

I disagree entirely. Coaches don’t want to sign onto a job where they don’t know who their next boss will be. Everyone wants THEIR guy.

In what world is Hodgson a done deal because of Lally? Do they know each other? This seems crazy to me.

If they’re hiring coaches based on one singular donor, there’s a problem.

Are we sure about that? An AD isn’t exactly handing out work assignments or interacting daily (or even weekly) with the HC.

We’re going to likely be hiring a guy who will be stepping up from a smaller program and making more money. Not knowing who the AD is could be a small factor but I don’t think it’s a game changer, especially if we basically have the replacement HC lined up already, which it sounds like we might.
