Is anyone else been shocked that Qadir White or Darius Tisdale have not been rotated into the OL during the course of a game this season. Can they be any worse than what we have seen so far this season?

If they were better they would have played. Some of us thought td was better then ed last year. Look how that’s going for us now.
Let's not act like Dungy didn't make horrible decisions at times and throw bad INT's. The o-line is brutal and not good at all. Tom Brady could be back there and he would struggle at this point in time. I'm not putting all of this on DeVito

Agree

Simple test. If Tommy was switched last night with Lawrence, how would it have gone?

Just about the same, IMO. It’s mostly OL issues. I think over the next two games, you work on getting as right as you can. That will dictate how the rest of the season goes.

I’m not sure he will. One thing I’ve learned over my 60 years as an SU fan is that I will often question an in game tactical decision by a coach, but I don’t question the strategical decisions like who starts or plays. Something in game is often a quick decision like whether to go for it on 4th and 2 or what play to call. But after weeks of seeing kids practice, how hard they work, etc, I trust the staff has the best on the field. Of course there’s always going to be examples of a back up getting a shot and they star, but not often.

So I think we probably have the best group out there. Maybe one of the new guys funnily figures something out and is given the chance. But when Heckel went down that caused a lot of chaos. With the one injury, it has caused us to use the “intended” back up at 3 positions. LT, RT and C.

If we had the talent necessary we wouldn't have made so much effort to bring in transfers.

Heckel coming back will help. Need Servais back out on the edge.
yes and we also need better game-time coaching to adjust what we are doing with what the D is showing us!

My bolding. That is the main issue. We had one person go down that triggered not a single change, but a three-position change.

We don't have the luxury to be able to take that on and still succeed at a high level.

Last night there was blame to go around, but we looked lost picking up the blitz (won't get into what I assume should have been better execution off of the QB/WR with the blitz coming).

Where’s Elmore been blocking? Has he even played?

With the pressure I thought we’d see him a lot last night, but I don’t remember a single play where he was in as a blocker. He played because he was on specials during kickoff returns. But the times we brought in an extra blocker it was Hackett. Maybe Elmore has a mild injury?

Wouldn’t be surprised, great kid but seems fairly often dinged up.

Dino has always said it takes the ol longer to develop. Not many ol are ready to go from day one. At least not the ones we are able to sign.

Then why all the Vettorello love so early on? Certainly does not look to be warranted on the field...

That is true, but Heckel missed much of the Spring and part of August. They rotated the tackles in those practices and had Servais at center — plenty of opportunities for reps with Heckel out. Heckel was rather average at guard in 2018 — not like we are missing Justin Pugh. It is more the fundamental issue — how good are the top 5 or top 6 individually?

He was in for one of the red zone situations in the second quarter. But no, he didn't play much.

Now its an option but I don't think it was last night to give guys their first taste of PT against that team.

I kinda feel like the OL learns from that and plays well rest of the way. Next 3 weeks are a good time to look at guys since you can shirt them for conference play if they aren't up to par.

Can they block two guys, no? Then they would be worse...

So Cordy is the best we have too?
(I do believe there is no option on offensive line sitting on the bench)

Offensive coaching is largely at fault. No changes were made to help the line. Between leaving someone in to help block or in play calling.

This idea that because a team blitzes combined with poor line play means nothing can be done, shows who knows anything beyond just watching football and who doesn’t. The offensive line was terrible but this isn’t their burden alone. There were a lot of things that could have been attempted and weren’t.
How do we know that a few quick passing plays wouldn’t have stopped Clemson from blitzing so much? This isn’t rocket science.
