I mean, seriously. This has gotten out of hand for some time now.

Sometimes you make your own "luck". If you take chances on borderline qualifies, some aren't going to make it. When you have a ceiling for coaching salaries, some hires are going to excel and be coveted by other schools, some aren't going to deliver and will need to be moved. When you neglect facilities for decades, you fall behind your peers and it takes a while to catch back up.

SU is in the ACC so let's not pretend like there is no hope for the future. Hopefully the next AD will have a better understanding of building a football program besides following the USC model.

i feel that us "never catching a break" may be a little dramatic. we were coming off 3 bowl wins in the last 4 seasons. have a brand new indoor practice facility and a top 40 incoming recruiting class. things could always be much much worse

Fair enough...but NC State, though?? Can't get over that.

SU fans consider this lateral. Most outside of CNY would not. This is a step up for George, and a slap in the face to us at the same time.

They have 1 more win over the past two seasons than us. If NC State is seen as a better program, it's not by much.

I'm in agreement that most folks in the country would consider this a step up.

Gosh, I'm not sure that NC State has the kind of reputation you presume.

I think you underestimate the strength of the Syracuse University Football Brand across the USA.

i hope so.

they may or may not be, but Im telling you... get outside of CNY and SU football is not really even on any type of radar.

Its barely a blip even in Buffalo.

Where do you live?

By the way, too many in CNY discount or do not truly understand the strength of the Syracuse Football Brand.

I moved from Buffalo to Central California 2 years ago. There was basically no one going out to watch Syracuse football games there and certainly none here. Anyone that sees me wearing Syracuse gear out this way comments about the basketball team only.

yeah the football program is not even thought of at all in sporting circles in other cities. hopefully we can change that again some day

Except of course when you mention McNabb, Harrison, Freeney, Coughlin, Csonka, Johnston, Jim Brown and others.

For those who truly watch college football, Syracuse University is still a solid brand.

A stronger brand than NC State.

I think you need to take a step back and re-evaluate Syracuse as a brand.

Historically it has a strong brand in football - but things change. It's been about 20 years since we had a strong team consistently. That's a long, long time.

If we are recruiting 50 & 60 year olds then we might have a shot. The kids in this recruiting class were still crapping their pants the last time that we really mattered and its not like they can look at our NFL guys since we currently have 0 prominent players in the NFL, Chandler perhaps being the only one that might get there.

I want the team to be the best team in the country like everyone else, but I also live in the real world.

Only matters what recruits think. For sports writers who can envision the entire history of college football, we are a strong brand. Current HS prospects in general are not such scholars of the game.

Yep. Thats like saying UCLA is still a top 5 college hoops brand.
