Will Syracuse men's basketball win a conference title in the next two decades?

Simple question here. Trying to get the read of the room. In 20 years, will we have won a conference title? Regardless of conference. ACC, Big 12, return to the Big East, whatever.

Not looking for a discussion here about the fate of the ACC or conferences in general. If you think conferences will be obsolete or something vote NO.

If those who vote YES, please explain your rationale. Do you think we will improve enough to compete in the ACC? Will we move to a lesser conference?

Yeah probably.

There aren’t programs anymore. Like, there aren’t schools who are crushing NIL now who are going to do that every year for the next 20 years (and who knows what paying players is going to look like 20 years from now, or even 2 years from now). They’re gonna get it right some seasons and get it wrong some seasons. Instead of programs consistently winning 20-something games every season and sometimes hitting 30, we’re gonna see those big schools have a few really good seasons and then a 15 win season, and then back up to 20+ wins, and then back down, and so on.

There’s very little inertia in the success of teams in this landscape of unrestricted free agency with no salary cap. You can’t guess who will be really good the following season based on how good they were the current season. You can’t guess how bad a team will be next season based on how bad they were this season. Well, you can guess, but it’s a shot in the dark. There’s no player development. There are no ‘program guys;’ and this is true across the landscape of college bball, not just in our corner.

All of that means practically every team is a couple big checks on a couple right guys away from being really good. In the next 20 years, we’ll probably write some checks to some right guys at some point. And that would/could be enough. There’s no ‘rebuilding’ anymore. Your house doesn’t burn down and you get to work building it back up from the foundation, in this environment. Instead, you order a new house and have it delivered ready to go.

The program, as its currently being run, is not a serious program anymore.

There have been some nice announcements on structural changes, but these will take time to bare fruit. Hopefully steps in the right direction, tho.

A lot will have to change and a likely 100% teardown and rebuild is necessary with a new HC.

I would guess the home gameday revenues have been a bad bell weather for decision makers on the hill already, but the first real gut punch they will feel will be the season ticket renewals. If the renewal drop is significant (as it very well may be), immediate and serious questions will be asked... Only so much rouge and lipstick you can put on a sow.
