William Kyle Appreciation Thread

You may very well be right about Kyle, but I think a lot of longtime posters remember how massively wrong you were about Benny Williams being underused and not treated fairly for 2 seasons. So you may want to let this play out a little bit.
Early on he was underused. We never saw what Benny could have been. Not saying he would have been great. But he didn’t get a fair shake. Starting Jimmy over him was criminal.

And when everyone said Jesse Edwards shouldn’t play?

“Benny Williams was underused” is something I never thought I’d read in my lifetime on Syracusefan.com… haha an absolutely diabolical hill to die on

Kyle pretty much played how I expected. Excellent rebounder. Limited offensive skills, but a threat on lobs / fast breaks to pound it. Unlimited stamina, so he can run all day and beat guys down the floor late in games when other bigs are tired.

He's got some intriguing tools and some limitations. And yes, he's probably a hair shorter than 6-9 -- can't be debated -- but so what?

He was 1 Reb away from a double double in 27 mins.

We outboarded them by 15. That Batchelor kid who was a 3 star guy that started his career at Maryland and is now a senior pulled in 10 rebounds somehow I think from the 3. Rest of their bigs were pretty useless all game until that McKenna guy scored 18 off the bench.
I would also point out McKenna scored 12 of his points from outside the three point line. I think that might have been a scouting issue. Kyle definitely could have challenged those threes better, but may not have been told to watch out for him. In the regular season, there will be far fewer unknown players on opposing teams.

I was really impressed with almost everything from Kyle. Except his horrific free throw shooting form.

Yea that dude was 4 from 5 shooting outside at one point. Had to look him up again. 1st D1 game ever, 7th year of College hoops ha.

Reminded me of White Men Can't Jump when Woody Harrelson comes in. I'm not sure the Buffalo coach even knew who he was cuz he wasn't starting.

Second team NAIA all American fwiw. Considering Kingz is a former NAIA kid- clearly there is some talent hidden there.

Diawara towers over him. As does Souare and even Sadiq may be a bit taller than him. Hopefully he can hold his own if he starts at center. He’s likely our best shot blocker, and lord knows we need that…
He plays very small

Kyle continues to have a spectacular start to the season.

Drexel had two guys listed at 7' or taller, De Laporterie and Akuta. They combined for 7 points and 7 boards. Kyle went for 10 and 8 with 3 blocks and 3 steals. Statistically, Kyle did well, but the statistics didn't really capture his effect on the game.

Kyle is a really good player, on both ends of the court.

William Kyle is a freak athlete. So refreshing to see great defense and athleticism at the center position again. Souare is a good defender as well. He spells Kyle well when he's in there.
