Winter athletes will be granted an extra year of eligibility

Dior will come off the bench with a 5th year of Buddy ;)

It’s going to be fun watching 30 year old Buddy Boeheim play SF.
Buddy’s going to set the NCAA record for 3 pt FGs made.
He has 144 already with 3 years now.
The record is 509 by Fletcher Magee.

That is 365 the next 3 years.
He will get the shots to break it.

Last year’s seniors didn’t get a Postseason.
The postseason is what matters the most for a great majority of these Athletes.

They don’t deserve an extra year this year if they play the tournament and the regular season instead of being 31 games is 25 games.

6 less regular season games affects the schools revenues it’s not a detriment to the players. They are getting a season. They are just losing some games.

It’s stupid to give these athletes an extra year if they get a postseason tournament and last year’s seniors didn’t get one.

It’s pretty plain and simple. Colgate-Syracuse not playing shouldn’t mean these players get an extra year.
Less nonconference games aren’t why kids deserve an extra year.

I'm with you on this. Five years of Buddy and Joe aside, they are getting seasons in. With college football it was a cart / horse thing. We have enough to work on now with sports knowing it's going forward, unlike the summer. It's not ideal but that's what it is.

Lots of kids missed out on stuff. That's life now. But stopping the clock doesn't help the next group up.

Presumably the extra year doesn't count against the scholarship limit when used, and that is not just a fix for next season. Meaning if Dolemite and Boo come back for their 5th season next year we can have up to 15 players on scholarship. If Griffin and Buddy use their 5th year the following year would we still be able to have 15 players on scholarship because we again have two 5th year Covid players?

If they do what they did for Spring and Fall athletes ... Returning Seniors won't count against the 13 scholarship limit for 2021-22 only. Things are back to normal for 2022-23.

So we will have to get Leo to pay for Buddy's 5th year!

Magical 2009-10 team was old! Rautins was 23. AO and Wes were 22. Scoop and Joseph were 21.

Only Jackson(20) and Triche(18) were not of legal drinking age. Probably had something to do with that team’s savvy play.

Having some good players that will be here a long time, that played right from their freshman year and already have a ton of experience, that will not be in position to leave early for the pros will benefit us. Even better that they’re both guards.

That is the same year our highest rated recruit since Carmelo Anthony is supposed to be a freshman here if he ends up Finding a HS and going to college.

Dior’s FR year would require Buddy to slide to SF or sitting Girard.

Put Buddy at the 3 and let’s get buckets.

Maybe JB has one more savvy defensive philosophy adjustment left in him?

If not...I’ll still take a 2008-09-esque season - score a lot, suck on defense, max out at sweet 16, be FUN to watch vs. the boring mess we’ve been watching in recent years.

The 2009 team got beaten up by how deep the Big East was.
If that team played now they would be a top 5 team for pretty much the whole season.

That is how much the quality depth of college basketball has gone down.
I just hope the days of the bubble are gone.
I want to be a lock for the NCAAT by February.

If they do it exactly as they did for the spring, someone won't count against the scholarship limit if they stay at their present school, but will count against it if they transfer to another school. I can't tell from any of the posts if that's what been implemented here beyond everyone getting another year of eligibility.

Asterisks for all the new records to be set?
How does this affect recruiting?
Another year of JB?
Incoming freshmen are going to be disappointed, with their minutes and progression stunted by the deference to incumbents.

So 5 years of JGIII...anyone want to give odds on him becoming SUs all time leading scorer?

Probably already discussed, but doing this could really screw high school kids out of opportunities (scholarships).

If it works like the spring sports extension did, a senior who decides to stay at his or her school won't count against the limitations on the roster or scholarship head counts. If someone transfers to another school, then they will count against the limitations.

these extra years dont count to the scholarship limits
For all athletes, or just current seniors? For instance, if Buddy wanted to stay for a 5th year, would his 5th year count against the scholarship limit?
