Won’t be the most athletic team, but high IQ

Jesse will make a big difference on D in the center of the zone. He will be a legitimate shot block/shot alteration presence, and his length will alter and close out passing lanes. Remember that tip he had in the tournament on that cross court pass?

Looking at next year’s squad of Buddy, JGIII, Symir, Swider, Jesse, and probably Jimmy Jr, that group won’t be the most athletic bunch. Benny is really the only elite athlete. Possibly Frank if he returns. But we will probably have one of our highest bball IQ teams in JB’s era.

It will be a smart team, but I’m concerned about our ability defend and rebound. Hopefully we minimize turnovers and shoot the lights out all year.
We’re gonna need more athleticism at the other forward spot opposite Benny or get Q to return. Having Frank return or getting another big athletic guy to play center could be key. I’d also love to find a super athletic guard who can get in the lane. I mean, we had one already but he just left...arghhh

Is it because we’re a lot whiter?

Im not causing any issues with this but what evidence of being a higher IQ team losing Kadary and Marek?

Nothing to do with that. We just won’t be a very athletic team.

Some people seem to think we won’t be a high bball IQ team. If we aren’t athletic and we have low bball IQ we’re headed for a very bad year.

This clearly won’t be an overly athletic team, so we’ll have to be a high bball IQ team if we expect to do anything of significance.

Yeah. You are correct. But as fans...good passers always = high IQ. But other parts of the game are equally important.

But Our offense was so predicated on space and ball movement this year, when Neither Marek or Kadary were on the floor against conference teams, we flat out sucked most possessions. I’m not sure how what we’ve brought in makes up for what we’ve lost as far as ball movement and passing.

And Braswell. He knew all the rotations and where to be, along with knowing what he could and couldn’t do. I think our 3 highest IQ players are gone.
Great point, Not sure why I didn’t add him.

Not to pick on you for this but your original post stated it WILL be a high IQ team, not that we better hope we are high IQ to make up for lack of athleticism.

Sadly, it is possible that we could be both relatively unathletic... and be a low bball iq team.

I think we will. Others think we won’t.

I think we all agree that we won’t be athletic.

Where’s the IQ coming from? Benny?

Haven’t seen it from Buddy or Joe. And it seems we are losing the two players who best exemplified it, in KaDary and Marek.

Buddy isn’t a high IQ player?

Crazy, but i really enjoyed watching Marek play the 4!

Not saying he’s bad, but I didn’t see ‘plus.’
How are we defining it? I always considered it a matter of making plays for others, being anticipatory on defense, making the smart plays.

I think we’re defining it as:

Number of white and/or unathletic guys on the court at once.

So - we’re left to hoping they have “high IQ” (I’m assuming hoops IQ version) to make up for what they lack in athleticism.

Because if it’s actual High IQ - then we should be gunning for transfers from MIT & Oxford, not Marquette & Nova. ;)

Losing Marek & Kadary, our 2 best passers, playmakers, and ball handlers, is a big hit to the overall hoops IQ of this team.

Symir & Cole both look like very solid adds, but it’s unlikely we’re breaking even in net hoops IQ when compared to who we’re losing.
(and this is in no way a negative about either of those guys, it’s just that their predecessors set a high bar in this regard.

I don’t see a high IQ roster but the OP brings a fair take.
It’s debatable.

I don’t think we have a high IQ roster because our ball handling is without a doubt our biggest weakness right now.

The next time Joe feeds the post will be a first.

Our guards as a unit have struggled to simply pass to the post.
You aren’t going to win every game with a big who can score but to be a really good team you need guards who can feed the posts to keep the defense “spaced”.

Is it safe to say Hop wouldn’t have let Kadary go or wouldn’t have been in this position b/c he would have moved to start him during the season or told him he’d start next year? Ugh.
Is the Hop the HC or assistant coach?

Who knows
