Worst freaking play calling ever from inside the 5 yard line!

Doesn't that show a "lack of confidence" in the team when you pull the offense off the field on 4th and goal from inside the 1?

The very thing Marrone was bashed for last week when he punted against USC.

And the very thing he was bashed for against Rutgers.

If you're afraid to go after 1 freaking yard at home against a 1AA team, you shouldn't be coaching.

Agressive coaching is not an either/or proposition. It is knowing when to be aggressive and when not to be based up on the game situations. Marrone has shown that he will be agressive. He just seems to pick the wrong times. Up 4 you kick no matter who the opponent is. Especially when you haven't gotten in on 3 previous plays from about the same spot.

No, it is not "becoming a disturbing trend." It has BEEN a disturbing trend. I really really want to like Marrone. I really really want him to be successful. I am one of the few that loved it when he was hired. I'm just waiting for better. It's a good thing for him SU was so much more talented today or they'd have lost.

I hear ya. I try not to make such absolute/categorical comments here...for obvious reasons... ;)

The thing I don't understand about that second 4th and out was why they kept running plays towards the right side and Big Lou. He got eaten alive on 3rd and 4th down.

NO!!!! It shows you are watching the scoreboard and trying to win the game. That isn't the time to prove a point you can get a yard vs a IAA school when you are on a 7 game losing streak! This is the time where you look at the scoreboard and try to secure a win!

He should have a lack of confidence that the "team" put him in that position to even have to make that call! KICK THE FIELD GOAL!!! It's the smart play!

I think Marrone needs to take some critical thinking courses. :)

I've said it before, you give the ball to Goggins in those situations. He was a fullback. I don't know why coaches dont do it more. If not running the ball, at least a lead blocker.

I hope Marrone/Hackett learned we don't have an imposing run blocking line and need to get creative. Nassib's strength has always been the roll out, he feels comfortable doing it. Why not just roll him out with 3 options: pass to an open receiver, tuck and run or throw it out of the back of the endzone. I'd trust my 5 year QB in this situation.

Hopefully they learn from this ... there were a lot of dos and don'ts out there and this was a good game to find them, hopefully they learn when the next goal line opportunity arises.

BFD, so he lost the some of his excess baby fat. He still needs to lose some more...he's obviously not good enough (yet) if he's not seeing the field ahead of Smith...
Agreed. There is so much more to being a RB... pass-catching skills, blocking, protecting the QB, knowing the play book, and playing hard every down (which overall fitness is a factor). None of us attends practices, so we have very little idea of how AAM grades-out overall. Unless HCDM and Hackett are horrible at evaluating talent, or have a personal vendetta against Moore, you have to believe they play the RBs who they think has the best overall skill set to help us win. What rationale would they have for sitting a player who is better than the guys on the field?

I recall da Bears used to use the Fridge in that role (and occasionally a decoy, because the opposing defense would always key on him in those situations). We need to develop a reliable "Jumbo Package" that we can count on to get us that yard or two in critical situations.

Enough of the Monday Morning Quarterbacking I crushed Marrone in the chat last week absolutely crushed him for punting on 4th and 2 in the 4th quarter, but his decisions were the right call. The first one you could say maybe he should kicked the FG, but he showed confidence in Nassib and co. which I believe was smart. The play call maybe should have been a run but a majority of the time Nassib completes that throw and plus it left SB having to go 97 yards. The second one Smith should have scored on the 3rd down. The play calling wasn't bad it was the execution enough of the sky is falling threads. Marrone knows he is on notice and until we play a complete game I won't be happy, but I won't b#tch about it every damn game. 1 down 6 more to go. If we play 60 minutes of football we will be tough to beat we have only played 30 minutes of complete football each week.

I doubt that's the case. Coaches see these guys go at it everyday in practice...obviously, AAM hasn't impressed enough.
AAM will most likely transfer

I can see kicking on the first 4th and goal, I was actually very surprised they didn't.

The second one, you have to go for that. I don't care what the game circumstances are.

I was surprised we didn't see any misdirection or a sweep, something to the outside though, just to mix it up a bit on the second 4 downs.

As far as AAM, if he was better than Smith, he'd be in. People really need to stop with the conspiracy theories, it's just silly.

A run was called. Marrone said there was a miscommunication problem when the play went in from the sideline.
