Would you like to play Rutgers?

Your AD recently talked about games with PSU and an unnamed Big Ten School. Some are speculating it could be us. What do you think?

Nope.

No interest in playing any team that goes into chop-block and leg-whip mode in the final series when they lose.

Total loser and morally-bankrupt head coach you have there.

Hope this is the year when the NCAA fines your program and disciplines Greggy for it...

If Rutgers is vying for the same NJ recruits it would be great to have them in person in NJ when we play and offer an easy road trip for their families every other year. IF Cuse is to ve a viable option this should be a game we want for recruiting and a yearly W. If we're afraid of potential upside of Rutgers we should fold up shop.
Agree to disagree. We recruit NJ excellent because the staff is either from there or closely tied to the region. That said I get it would be easy for players and families. Good point there. That said should we play Villanova so we can recruit PA? No we don't. As a fan I would much rather have a series with a Michigan state, Wisconsin, Illinois or Iowa (lots of options). It's not about losing the occasional to Rutgers. It's about having good wins at the end of the season. Rutgers will never be considered a good win. Who you beat matters both for rankings and playoff and for the new ACC payout system.

The following is a list of Big Ten teams I’d schedule before letting the Rutgers trash into the JMA Wireless Dome or subjecting our team to having to play in SH(i)T Stadium:

Illinois
Indiana
Iowa
Maryland
Michigan
Michigan State
Minnesota
Nebraska
Northwestern
Ohio State
Oregon
Penn State
Purdue
USC
Washington
Wisconsin
UCLA

In fact, I would rather schedule an away game against the only former Big Ten member, Division III University of Chicago.

I keep having to remind myself that the Big Ten includes UCLA, USC, and UW

RutgersAl love to see you post. Never met you, but would love to buy you a drink if we ever cross paths. Your pure fandom and unrelenting praise of your program is something that should be celebrated.

Would love to play Rutgers. Ideally in the mid fall, where both fanbases can enjoy the fall season of each state.

Not sure if that would ever happen as the evolving football landscape is putting any rivalry at the begging of the year, but damn...that would be a good game to go to.

Regional, especially NE football needs to have more, recurring, battles.

So appreciate everyone likes Al, by all means he seems like a really nice guy from what everyone says but other than regionally close, I don't see the value and upside. We already strongly recruit NJ with our staff. They aren't what I would consider a rival. Rutgers has no reputation as a winning program that would look good on a future SU season resume. All time record is Syracuse 36 to 12 Rutgers. I can see why Rutgers would want it for recruiting. There's upside for Rutgers and negligible value for Syracuse. Pass.
Al,is a good dude. He actually came to one of our tailgates once and I had a chance to talk with him. He’s delusional, but a good dude

Hell no.

Fran is the Mayor of half of NJ. It's not like SU needs exposure with NJ recruits.
It would just give oxygen to their program.

Let them get beat up by their usual slate of Big 10 and FCS teams.

100%, I'd like to play Rutgers. Every year. I think it could be a a fun almost but not quite rivalry. I mean, neither school has anything remotely close to one today.

Could be wrong in this, but I don’t think Coach Brown and Schiano want to play. They are pretty tight.

I expect the team to be Maryland.

I think an annual game at Yankee Stadium with a 50/50 crowd could be a cool thing to look forward to each year.

We should be playing more B10 teams for conference realignment reasons alone. Ones that make sense re: recruiting and rivalries even more so.

I think that a Syracuse vs. Rutgers game would be a big draw for both teams. Neither team is terrible, so it would likely be a competitive game. I don't believe the majority of Rutgers fans hate Syracuse (although there's something to be said for the NY/NJ thing). We know that there is a lot of venom from the Cuse side (the infamous dumpster fire thread) probably due to conference jealousy, recent losses, who claims to be New York's team, etc. It kind of reminds me of the Yankees vs. Red Sox stadium tours. The Yankees really don't talk much about the Red Sox on their tours, but if you go on the Fenway tour, the rivalry is mentioned several times.

I'm a fan of nostalgia, so it would be fun to see a matchup of two former Big East schools. I say we do it. Plus, who wouldn't want to see Fran go against Schiano?

My hatred of Rutgers doesn’t have jack squat to do with conference jealousy and is only tangentially related to recent losses. Rutgers is a garbage program which has spent its entire existence aspiring to mediocrity. Syracuse spent decades treating Rutgers as a cupcake to beat up on as a homecoming game. Then about 20 years ago, Syracuse dropped off badly - and Rutgers succeeded in their ambitions to get within a stone’s throw of “average”. That led to several Rutgers wins over Syracuse. And I hate that - not because of Rutgers specifically, but because it means we’re no longer at the cool kid’s table but are stuck eating our lunch with a fat pathetic loser like Rutgers….which means we might be losers now too. Playing and beating them means nothing, it’s not like that’ll impress anyone. But losing to those clowns is just another kick to the crotch reminding me how little relevance Syracuse has had in college football for 20+ years.

Penn State doesn’t gain anything by beating us - but they don’t mind playing us since there’s a negligible chance they’ll lose. That I hate Rutgers because I don’t feel the same way about playing them says very little about Rutgers (and nothing positive) - but says a lot about where Syracuse football is right now.
