You are giving him an awful lot of credit for those first two years. Do you realize how bad the PAC-12 was at that time? No "power" conference winner goes 27-9 (15-3), wins the league by 3 games, goes unranked and gets an 8-seed in the NCAAT.

The ACC, meanwhile, had the #1, #2, and #3 team in 2018-19. (#10 and 16 as well, fwiw).

Maybe Hop would have found a way to compete with the big boys in the ACC in his first couple years, and if that occurred, it would have been a far greater indicator of his coaching ability and staying power than what he accomplished in Seattle. We'll never know, of course.

"The PAC 10 was terrible". You can only play the teams on your schedule, dude. They hadn't been raided yet, so I call bull on your assertion. In 2018, when he won Coach of the Year, UCLA, USC, Arizona, all those original members were still in the conference.

All true, but I'd say his coaching prowess really got exposed after his first couple years. That coach of the year season appears to be the exception, not the rule.

I think that's completely fair.

That was almost 50 years ago.

Besides Hurley, how many of these old school jerk coaches are having success? You don't have to be an A hole to be a good leader.
Do we even know 100% for sure that Hodgson is a jerk?

He’s coached 3 years. He took Arkansas St from 13 wins to 25 wins in two years. South Florida was 13-19 last year. They are 14-8 now. You may not like him, but he’s turned two programs around very quickly.
Do you know that USF's investment in the roster more than doubled? Do you know that the American Conference is absolutely dreadful this year?

Believe it or not, there are some guys that are worth hiring despite the shade. This guy is not one of them.

He’s part of the reason for increase in investment and the thought would be he could do the same here with certain donors.

Also curious to hear your list of coaches if you aren’t fond of him or Skinn? Schertz seems like a dream at this point.

He told a 18 year old kid his dad was getting fired in a handshake line, I'd say it's a pretty good bet
To be fairrrrr… that’s not exactly what happened, per a post in this very thread.

FWIW, I’m not terribly excited about anyone this thread has fixated on.
Accurate. Best thing we can hope for is a respected and sought after HC, big upgrades across the entire staff and a ton of talent brought in.

You are calling "bull" on my assertion that the league was garbage in 2017-18 and 2018-19? And your evidence is that various schools had not yet departed for other leagues?

I never said anything about Skinn personally, other than I would prefer a more seasoned guy. He has won as a head coach in a decent league - so he’s already light years ahead of our current situation.

I also think it’s a fool’s errand to assume a coach can bring millions of dollars in donors with him. I just don’t buy it as a sustainable model. Additionally, you have to be able to coach at a high level. I’m not convinced Hodgson can when the playing field is more even than at smaller D1 levels.

JB did that plenty to student reporters. He was nice and genuine with people he considered to be important. For those he viewed as beneath him, you’ve heard the stories.
Can confirm he was a jerk to me when I was just a random student in Newhouse. incredibly rude and disrespectful when he asked me for directions.

Short version: USF played George Washington earlier this year. Red's kid plays for GW.

It was a high scoring, back and forth game. I think GW won something like 99 to 93 -- something along those lines -- pulling away in the final minutes.

As Autry [the kid] celebrated on the court with his teammates as the game neared the conclusion, Hodgson [salty losing team coach] yelled smack to the kid about his dad not making it past this year at Syracuse.
bnoro dasher is this what you guys are referring to?

Was the Pac-12, or whatever, any worse with UCLA, USC, Arizona, Arizona State, Stanford, Cal, Oregon and all those other teams, noticeably worse than the ACC has been considered, when the ACC has only been a 3 or 4 bid conference lately?

I wouldn't say the ACC was trash if Boeheim had won ACC Coach of the Year before he retired. All programs go through up and down periods, in case you haven't noticed.

If the league was the same teams it's always been, then you can't just discount the whole league. It's not like he won Coach of the Year in the Patriot League, and that's what you're trying to make it into.

I have it on great authority that it is 100% true.
Are there different versions floating around? Frankly sounds like something that could have gotten blown way out of proportion. I thought I saw a post somewhere that young Autry went after Hodgson as well. Not a good look regardless of who started what, but it just sounds like a silly drama non-issue in terms of who should be running the program.
