He'll be out of work for maybe 5 minutes.

Some other college or pro team will hire him.

It would suck if he was working against us for some other ACC team.
I have to imagine the new HC will bring in his own GM. If we do this hire right the new HC has a staff already assembled/in mind.

That's one of Red's multiple failures. Guy had several years to prepare and yet he did nothing to bring on board new coaches and new front office personnel. Good HCs have a crew ready to join them.

Kline is very well respected and I imagine will have a voice in the next hire. He's not going anywhere and it would be bad news if he left.

What X's and O's is Duke running that makes them good year after year?
I agree. Strategy has no impact on the games. Let's just hire Bozo the Clown to sit on the sidelines and make balloon animals to entertain the fans while the games are going on.

Kline works for JW, not the basketball program from what I understand...Wouldn't be surprised if he's the only one that stays.

Got it. I didn't realize he wasn't part of the basketball organization.

George was a good player last year and one of the most coveted PGs in the portal. His regression has more to do with coaching (or lack thereof), a poor offensive system, and bad player development more than anything IMO.
Coaching in that he chooses to ignore his coach and just do whatever he wants? He is definitely not a team player, which is just one more downside to the portal. No allegiance. No loyalty to the team.

Damon Stoudamire didn't seem that disappointed when George transferred. "He's talented but inconsistent" or something to that effect is the quote I remember. Granted, that's likely sour grapes and an attempt to diminish his transfer, but there's truth in there. He's been very disappointing.

What are you talking about? Wildhack is the current AD and hasn’t announced any plans to retire. There won’t be a new AD in the next two months!
The original plan I heard was that John and Kent were both retiring this summer. Maybe with KS leaving early the plan was scuttled.

Personally, I like JW and hope he stays on and takes care of the hoops situation. We'll see.

I always thought George was the key this year. With a more dominant front court than he had at GT he should've made a bigger jump but just never did. Blame it on coaching or player or both equally, doesn't matter they'll be gone.

NCState just showed how bad our backcourt was. George/JJ/Kiyan against Qadir/and their other starting guards.

I'll let you guys guess which line is ours and which is there's. We better find some guys that can shoot the ball next year.

The coaching is bad. We know this. But George was a poor evaluation. He’s not a good basketball player. It happens. There are plenty of players that appear better than they are in certain situations for whatever reason but aren’t as talented as they seem and come back down to their own mean. You see this happen in drafts all the time…superstar player gets drafted only to reveal he’s actually not a superstar. George is not good. Period. Could Cuse position him better for success? Yes. But he’s not the guy you ever really want to be running your team.

Who would you like to see? Give me your top 4...And don't tell me GMac
First, I don't know what I don't know. By that I mean all of the players that might be interested in the job. Having said that, my top four are Tony Skinn, he is the George Mason coach. I hear he wants the G-town job though. I guess my second choice would be Bryan Hodgson. The reason I have some reluctance is that he did say to Red's son that Red would be fired. I hoped he didn't but I have been told by someone who would know, he did. Not something an adult coach should say. Not something a adult should say. But, I also believe he would get a ton of NIL money from a booster that currently doesn't give to basketball. By the way, I think Hodgson will probably be the guy. Of course I have to put Josh Schertz of St louis on my list even though I think he will do "better" than us at this point. If I have to name a 4th, and that is what you asked for,I would put Luke Murrey on my list. An ass't won't fly with the donors I don't think but he is an offensive coach. He will get a head coaching job and will probably be pretty damn good.

I disagree regarding poor evaluation. Maybe proves us wrong starting tomorrow, if not this season. Next season in a Syracuse jersey under a new coach or elsewhere, he will ball out.

You think it was that simple?
Listen. I’ve heard all the speculation that all these decisions were forced upon him and maybe they were. If the chancellor or BOT won’t let him do his job why stay. Especially when they are so clearly epically bad decisions.

Me personally I would have bounced.

Syracuse loves being cheap and they love hiring internally. See Red, FLJ, and Lax
Syracuse isn’t “cheap.” I hate that narrative. They are financially constrained. That might be alleviated if your check clears.

As an alum, Wildhack certainly likes to support other alumni if they are qualified candidates. Red had a lot of support throughout the industry and was deemed to be a better choice than a handful of external candidates that were considered throughout the two plus year succession planning process. Didn’t work in that case, but I don’t have an issue at all with Felisha or Gait and am anxious to see what Thorpe does. John was more than willing to go outside the family for football when there wasn’t an alumnus candidate as impressive as Fran. He’ll do it for basketball too but won’t write off a candidate if they have a block S on their diploma.

dasher seems like the consensus list. Would be happy with any of the four mentioned. Think Skinn waits a year to take Georgetown, Schertz is out of our range, leaving Hodgson.
I don't get the Schertz out of our range comments (not directed at you specifically, others have made similar comments). SU is in a top conference, has a great tradition, and with a good team, one of the best attendance rates in the country. Assuming we can pay, I don't see why he's out of our range. He's coaching at St. Louis, not Duke.

It's sad but I think it is true. We are not the Syracuse program we once were. And we are a risk for a guy like him that will have other top options. I think he will stay at St louis rather than go to Syracuse. I hope I am wrong but our national image is way down.

I'll add to this. History doesn't matter anymore. Its all about the Benjamin's baby (NIL).
