Class of 2026 WR Calvin Russell (FL) COMMITTED TO SYRACUSE (7/5/25)

First of all, Loy is a tool, he basically is so butthurt about being wrong on Russell that he all but called the kid a liar, like he misled the UM staff into thinking he was committing there. Even the UM 2-4-7 guy called him out on that. As far as the UM fanbase, they need to wake up and realize that the best recruiter in America is the head coach at Syracuse. This isn’t the Syracuse of the early 2000s to 2023. Just like they can’t mark Indiana off as an automatic win anymore because they hired an excellent(arrogant as hell) culture changing coach. I will see them all in hell!
Think about how all this transpired. I absolutely guarantee you had Russel unofficially visited Ohio St or Alabama or Georgia 4 times and didn’t official there those schools names would still get tossed around on national social media feeds by these recruiting websites. Why? It drives clicks, it drives their revenue model, it panders to those fan bases. It makes it seem like the analysts actually have information for those fan bases. It’s a bunch of disingenuous trash as we learned with how Syracuse was manipulated from a social media / exposure level throughout Calvin Russel’s recruitment.

How did Collins and Carney look vs power 5 Defenses?
I know what I saw, and you can't tell me I didn't see that. An athletic QB, with very good mechanics play very successfully vs power 5 defenses. Threw for 504 yards, going 34-for-44 … Tossed seven touchdown passes … Earned a 221.4 efficiency rating … Ran eight times, gaining 27 yards
Ok Einstein you have seen a limited sample set. As I said cautiously optimistic but he has only attempted more than 7 passes in a game once. Once! You haven’t seen him play a full quarter more than once. He may be insanely good or he may not but you don’t have an accurate sample size yet. Nowhere did I say anything about Collins or Carney or any other quarterback I spoke specifically to Angeli and a limited sample set. I saw Zack Mahoney throw for 440 and 5 tuddies against a P5 once … can Angeli perform for an entire season? You have no clue nor do I, but we may soon find out.

I can’t believe that we landed him. As of Saturday it was apparently down to Michigan, FSU and Oregon. Fran is definitely the man. I hope we hang onto him for signing day. Go Cuse!

I don’t think those reports were accurate. I think they misinterpreted their information. I think SU was always in it but not thought to be because of the official visit situation.

Not upset about it in the least. Just glad we landed him after seeing this on his instagram. Still shocked.

That is interesting. Hadn’t seen that video. Maybe he was blowing smoke as I’m pretty sure we were still in it at that point. Unless he wasn’t listing us because we didn’t have enough NIL on the table at that point for him to count us in. Trying to light a fire for SU NIL?

I don't look at numbers, sample sets, or single games, I look at talent, mechanics, athleticism, success rates vs good opponents over time. Small or large sample size. Talent is not a statistical endeavor. It's called extrapolation. If you can't tell the visual difference in Angeli's talent and success rates vs Mahoney's you have proven my point. Compare and show me all the poor games and poor drop backs for Angeli and Mahoney and then answer me.

I doubt that happens. At 6’-2” 206 lbs, I feel like even if he has a really good season, NFL teams will want to see him perform well as a starter for more than 1 season. Unless he had prototypical height and great duel threat abilities to boot, they need to see more proof before drafting him. Unless you show serious running skills, it seems very hard to get drafted at this point.
Look, all I'm saying is I was making jokes about Angeli being Cuse and people were all like "he's not even in the portal" and "we already have Collins" and "he's already stuck around at Notre Dame as the backup QB" and it seemed impossible and yet somehow I manifested it anyway, and now you're telling me you're betting against what I can make possible?

I think these recruits like playing all of us. And I personally don't blame them.
At my age (53), it isn’t hard for them to play me. Especially when he was supposed to announce at 9. I kept thinking I was gong to stay up late to watch him commit to Michigan. Glad I got to see he picked the University of Syracuse. Let’s go!

If Angeli is so spectacular why couldn’t he overcome a very very mediocre passer in Reilly Lenard? Your key phrase was “over time” my point remains he hasn’t played enough over time. This really isn’t that difficult. But as a mechanics expert I’m sure you can explain why he couldn’t beat out Lenard who was average at best as a passer. You can have great mechanics and still not live up to expectations (see Devito, Tommy). Give the guy a few games before we decide he can walk on water.

This one was for the shock factor as well. Make them believe you won’t be different until you turn out to be by picking the place that people see as second class when you had first class options. Truth is we are not acting and investing like a second class program anymore, that’s why we even had a seat at the table even with Fran Brown’s and others in the program relationships that closed the deal. Now if they decide to treat Russell differently, we are all watching and can call them out since the reason why will be obvious. There is a balance to playing the marketing game and just winning on the field of course.

Happy we landed him obviously, but FB recruiting is deep waters. Would not be surprised if some reps of CR’s may have told some white lies.

Would not be the first time. Doesn’t make him a bad kid. The pressure is immense and sometimes the easiest route is to tell people what they want to hear just to get the phone to stop ringing,

Which is smart if they did. You can already see the campaigning trying to devalue what this really was. Rate these players and publicize them based on merit not politics based on the current brand value of who they actually choose. This does matter, it can have direct impact on the players ability to market themselves for NIL. From the outside, CRs team is playing this right.

You manifested it so hard. And we thank you for that.

Because Angeli was never supposed to be the answer for Notre Dame. They were never going to look at him that way.

In the portal world where Notre Dame thinks they're a contender they will only start at QB a 5 star they recruited, or a top portal guy. Their program and donors will view anything else as a failure of the roster and coaching staff.

Angeli hit his ceiling at ND.

I get the sense he just wanted to surprise people. Can’t blame him, this is the biggest announcement he gets to make aside from maybe declaring for the draft (although those are rarely surprises).

I’m basing this off him saying he made the decision a few days ago, but all caps tweeted he hasn’t committed yet last night when some burner accounts (and our idiot student journalists who believed them in a rush to be first rather than right) said he was Cuse bound.
