Class of 2026 WR Calvin Russell (FL) COMMITTED TO SYRACUSE (7/5/25)

I have no issues giving him a chance. Have I said otherwise? I have been consistent with this not sure why it’s difficult to grasp. I’m cautiously optimistic but not declaring it a slam dunk certainty that he is the right answer. Won’t know until he steps on the field and won’t pretend otherwise. It’s not as cut and dry as some make it out tis be,
Everything I have seen, you’re taking every opportunity to say why he wasn’t good enough. That’s how I see it. Which quite frankly, isn’t fair.

I cited reasons why I felt he wasn’t a given … why is this so hard to grasp? Move on to Russell this is exhausting.

I for one am going to continue to be on cloud 9 thanks to this verbal commitment because this program is in such great hands

So save your little QB battles, hypothetical scenarios, and what ifs for another thread

Belief with evidence. Always behind Fran

It's a fair question as it's currently just a verbal commitment. If Angeli/Collins struggle and don't look like Top 5 ACC caliber QBs, I'd be concerned as we get closer to signing day.

I suspect that a nil contract is already signed. I’m not worried as much of high level flips with the new nil. I can see three year contracts. It will slow the portal.

What Angeli lacks in throwing compared to McCord he will make up with his legs. He also has some serious weapons on offense. The WR room the next 2 years is loaded and this offense will boom
While I like the optimism, I’m not sure I’d take it that far. His numbers don’t suggest he’s going to get all that many rushing yards. I’m sure he’ll be better than McCord in that regard but that is a low bar.

McCord was amazing for us last year. I’d be surprised if Angeli can match his production in his junior year with no starting experience under his belt. But that’s OK. Doesn’t mean he can’t be very good. And who knows what he can become in 2026.

Angeli could throw for 1,700 yards less than McCord did and it would still be one of the best passing seasons in school history.

Think a little more about what you just said and apply it to the idea that he may or may not be sufficient here. Again not a slam dunk and it should be a wait and see approach, if he were significantly better than Lenard he would have played that is the bottom line.

They don't just sign a kid and declare him insufficient .. why even recruit him then? They bring them in to compete and let the chips fall where they may. This isn't how it works and its flawed logic.

I get that … as for what ND wants it’s relatively similar which is why back to back years they brought in Hartman and Lenard and have moved on to CJ Carr. I’m not quite sure how big arm relates to Hartman or Lenard … again I hope he works out but I don’t see a sure thing here.
I think the board knows it’s not a slam dunk. Who is saying it’s a slam dunk? Well other than OttoinGrotto’s exagerated super positive manisfestation schtick that is.

You just seem to be focusing on the negatives. I mean you probably repeatedly stated the negatives of McCord transferring here and why it might not work out. We know it’s not 100% sure thing but are happy with the direction it’s looking.

No QB is transferring to SU or pretty much almost any other school for that matter comes without some question marks. And the ones who don’t have a transfer QB, they are bringing a QB up through the program that has less experience or less production with questions as well. Otherwise they would have left for the draft already.

You think ND insiders are going to just stick with the positives of a player leaving their program? Take the lens into account. Angeli has two years left and has shown some promise to lead a P4 time and also execute under big moments. They like him enough to have him #2 as a Sophomore behind a very good QB in Leonard. And now they are moving forward to a new era with a redshirt freshman Carr who was the #6 QB in the 2024 class. No unproven QB is a slam dunk, but I’d bet on Fran and Nixon before most others to find something that works.

Just wish we had the Spring with Angeli. Thinking it may just take a little more time to get rolling. But Tennessee is in the same boat. And then we get UConn and Colgate.

With the portal I think it’s pretty easy to change the direction of your program in one year. If Angeli isn’t what we’re hoping for we can always hit the portal again and dangle some playmakers. I’d also try to flip a high end QB prospect for this year to match up with Russell.

Tell you what go find a single thing I said about McCord coming here, I implore you to do so. Here is a preview … you won’t. I took the lens into account I’ve known the guy for 30 years and he is close to people at the program and I asked him.

Again for the millionth time I am cautiously optimistic but based on feedback I’ve received I want to see him play for more than a series or two before I anoint him anything including starter as many here have. Is it really this hard to grasp or do I need to draw this out in crayon? Now move on to Russell … I don’t even have to repeat myself this much to my kids.

I don't think you're technically allowed to discuss/sign NIL deals until you are enrolled and on campus?
