Ahhh - yep - I don't think that's good at all. Should all be in public, IMO.

I have kids follow me all the time on twitter... and I have had a few DM me. I actually contacted one HS coach and told him he should council his kid not to DM "fans". Personally I don't think it is a good idea.

And it should be stated: if a kid doesn't want fans to tweet them, block them or get off Twitter. You can also turn off DM's from non-followers. Make your account private.

i find it hard to believe the majority of tweeters are 'old men'. more likely in the 18-28 age bracket, so I don't find that to be creepy at all.

Not condoning it. I don't even have a twitter account. But this is how many people under 30 live their lives these days. Not just here but all over the globe. Everyone wants to be treated like a celebrity and have "followers" reading and retweeting every inane thing that they've done during the day. Maybe in ten years time we'll wondering what were we all thinking about wasting all that time on social media but right now we're still in the novelty phase. I doubt these kids find it creepy and in comparison with the other stuff that goes on in recruiting, it's harmless. Now if you're a member of this "army" and think that your tweets are vital to the SU recruiting effort, that's more than a bit delusional. But I wouldn't be willing to say that it has no effect. It's not an accident that all these kids are updating their decision status or making their decisions on social media.
I'm 25 and essentially addicted to twitter.

I just don't tweet at 17 year olds telling them that I know which school is the best choice for them because I want my team to win. Let the kids make their decisions and go play where they want to go play. A kid not choosing SU is going to have literally no effect on my life.

I think that's different than calling it creepy. Using that word attaches things to it that need not be attached.

Well, honestly, some of our fans do tweet kinda creepy things. I see stuff constantly from our Twitter Army that reek's of a teenager jilted by his first girlfriend. Or a kid who knows he's about to get dumped and hopes to grovel and plead their way back into the heart of another.

The Twitter Army is a necessary evil, no doubt, just some of the stuff there is a blatant lack of emotional stability.

I take it we're all but out at this point, right?

I'm not saying it is all wrong. The congratulatory tweets, edits and videos are fine. In fact the new coaches seem to encourage that type of tweeting at prospects. It's the other stuff.

Completely agree, it's always the outlier, the 1-out-of-10 that ruins everything.

Look, I love Twitter, it's a way for me to basically have my own little newsfeed on things important to me.

When a grown man uses a bunch of emojis that are trying to speak their language, it's painfully obvious, and really, really creepy. Like this:

Code:
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="und" dir="ltr"> <a href="https://t.co/bJaR343jLB">https://t.co/bJaR343jLB</a></p>&mdash; ⭐ CUSE44LIFE ⭐ (@CuseCentral) <a href="https://twitter.com/CuseCentral/status/694520810040627204">February 2, 2016</a></blockquote>
<script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

Code:
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Absolutely . More to come! No fan like Cuse fan!!!! <a href="https://t.co/VIprJTkVpf">https://t.co/VIprJTkVpf</a></p>&mdash; ⭐ CUSE44LIFE ⭐ (@CuseCentral) <a href="https://twitter.com/CuseCentral/status/693793019661778944">January 31, 2016</a></blockquote>

That's a grown man with kids.

That's Twitter.

Is there a big difference between a bunch of people speculating and discussing a kid's college choice on a message board and talking with the directly? I'm just wondering, seems like it's all in the same atmosphere. Maybe we are all being creepy in our own way. Talking with recruits isn't my thing, but there isn't much of a jump between discussing their tweets here and asking them on twitter.

Anyone that spends any amount of time on these sites is a bit of a weirdo. Why do we do it? Because we love SU sports and there's literally no one here whose emotions haven't risen and fallen depending on how SU football or basketball or whatever has done that day. The idea that twitter people are somehow creepier in their man-love for these sports stars or more invested emotionally than other fans (or too invested emotionally compared to other fans) doesn't really ring true to me. It's just another outlet to communicate an obsession.

Direct communication is a different level than discussing or following recruiting. I don't do any of the direct communication personally, but that's my choice because I have no interest in it.

I'm not condoning or condemning it - whatever floats your boat. I think it's pretty harmless unless it crosses a line. I don't see it any differently than people that follow or interact with celebrities on social media. Yeah granted the kids getting recruited aren't celebrities, but they are public figures and they are putting themselves out for interaction with the public.

My biggest issue with it always had and always will be the potential for a recruiting violation. But as long as the NCAA is turning a blind eye, I really could care less as long as people aren't doing things that are criminal.

whats the old adage - when it comes down to three schools, and one is an extreme outlier, bet on the outlier
