Class of 2020 WR Chris Long (NJ) Decommitted

5 seasons at Rutgers, appeared in 32 games (8 starts), 28 receptions for 391 yards and 2 TDs. Despite RutgersAl's expert analysis that Long will immediately be the 3rd best WR on the team, this add does not seem to be about productivity. Going to bet it has something to do with being a "dog," adding toughness, locker room.

For some weird reason we have a bunch of fans that want to cast Hatcher off.
I'm okay with Hatcher staying, but don't think it's an unpopular opinion to say he is far and away our least aggressive WR. He is passive when the ball is coming towards him, and that cost him catches, and I believe led to an interception or two this season. He is too timid and needs to attack the ball.

I don't know if it's being timid or just not focused, I'll go with lack of consistent focus and too many drops, but will pull a What that was amazing type catch every so often.

I see it as a program type player, similar to Meeks. You lose nothing by adding a guy like Meeks and look at the upside we found compared to his production at UGA. Same here, if he's a good veteran presence / locker room type guy and the most you get out of him is solid scout team reps, then that's enough with a 105 man roster now.

Compared to what we saw these last few years, under this staff alot of guys turned into Jerry Rice. Significant decrease in the dropsies, result of better coaching and getting rid of the worst offenders.

which is weird because he’s one of the better blocking WR’s i’ve ever seen.

NJ better do Fran a favor in 2026 because they didn’t do him any this year

Maraad might beg to differ.

Oh - are you saying we didn’t get any great NJ sleeper croots for ‘25?

I’ll defer to the judgement of others on that.

He just looks like he sorta is out of it at times. That’s why I said lack of focus or consistency of focus. Like he’s day dreaming.
If he gets bigger and stronger he will improve. He lacks the strength of Meeks or Ross Simmons. His lack of strength is probably why he is timid attacking the ball

But it's the same WR coach?

It also comes down to the QB throwing a more catchable, better ball.
Agreed
But there's something to be said for accountability. Issues under Dino like false start penalties never went away. Schraeder didn't throw the best ball, but some of those drops were ridiculous.

This post surprises me……
Scholarship on a 1 year rental that hasn’t produced in 4 years at Rutgers? Doesn’t make sense? Either save it for an experienced guy who has produced, or makes me feel they may not be too confident on the young WR’s on the roster.

I think the bolded part could have some truth, but if you sub out Georgia for Rutgers isn’t this exactly Meeks? They must see something they like. Or maybe a WR is leaving and we haven’t heard yet? When does the portal close?

12-28, unless they're playing in a post-season game; then they get an extra 5 days after their post season ends, I believe.

Plus Malachi James is all in
Which then becomes a game of how to distribute. You hate to leave that kind of speed on the sidelines and you have potentially LA, Willis and Nixon returning. So can coach Nixon work a 4 to 6 plays per game "speed package" for James to get some opportunities beyond kick returns?

You find an extra way to get him in the passing game, especially if McCord comes back. There is your top end speed to take the top off any defense.
