Class of 2020 WR Chris Long (NJ) Decommitted

If this isn’t much of a loss - and I agree it may not be - what does it say about the decision to grab him to begin with?

I think he was grabbed for veteran depth

Long jumped at the opportunity without doing his homework on depth chart (my guess)

Looked around and had some other offers that may be sweeter financially as well as path to playing time, and decommits.

I think this was most likely a project/special teams pick up and might want to start at WR.
I’m okay with this type of pickup no that they are moving to 105.

honestly have no clue the reason but given timing, it's very odd. suspect something else besides playing time or our desire for him.

You’re probably right.

I suppose it supports the narrative that we’re mostly in Nordstrom Rack mode this time around as well.

Deep WR room. Writing was probably on the wall for him. Also our passing QB which gave so many WR numbers last season is also changing. McCord gave plenty of them time to shine.

I’d assume the kid wants guaranteed playing time and with our WR room I don’t think anything could be guaranteed. Just my two cents, no inside info.

Edit: There goes our WR1 for next year according to RutgersAl

Edit 2.0: Or we asked him to leave because we like Evans better.

Doubtful. 5 seasons at Rutgers, appeared in 32 games (8 starts), 28 receptions for 391 yards and 2 TDs. That doesn't seem like the type of production to demand "guaranteed playing time."

Evans visit and timing is interesting.

You think the kid wants to ride the bench? I’d assume he ends up somewhere he can play more than just specials consistently. Those numbers are exactly why he’d look for somewhere he can get consistent and guaranteed playing time.
