this reminds me of the Pitino thing, about half wanted him and about half said no way

In the absence of any real info on Mr. Cook, perhaps we should have a spirited discussion on the merits and defects of Binghamton or some other city in the Southern Tier - Horseheads, Endicott, Corning?.
How about guilford ny. That’s a redneck shlithole that nobody has heard of.

Oh you must be talking about The Pillers. Had some good bands there in the 70s/80s but a lot of fights also. hole for sure but had some good times there

Listen, I think Fran is a good football coach and a very solid guy. He knows what he is doing and I trust him. Sure there are certain criminal charges on someone that I don’t think should be allowed in a program. But that’s doesn’t mean people can’t change. Fran has been around those type of people his whole life where he grew up. Fran was able to be Successful and not be the product of his environment. Maybe some of these kids just need to be coached and mentored by someone that looks like them and comes from the same environment as them and know what it’s takes to get out of the environment. Now I’m not saying Fran is a miracle worker by any stretch. But ask yourself, how many P4 football coaches, look and come from the background that Fran does. It may be an uncomfortable topic but kids see that out of Fran. They know he’s a real one. Im not saying EVERY KID Fran brings in for a second chance is going to work but I always come back to this video.

This Nick Saban video is tremendous. He is 1,000% right.

That isn't the question though. First, we didn't cheer for them before they set foot on the campus. And here is a big surprise for you. Those kids that had done a few things, once I learned of them, I never rooted for them again. So please don't tell me that everyone cheered for them. I didn't.
This is a tough way to be, my guy. You don’t believe in second chances for 17 year olds? Really?

I hope this a case where a kid decides he’s going to use football instead of football using him and is buying what Fran is selling and doesn’t want to be at a factory.

Just because you can’t get on the field at UT or UGA doesn’t mean you can’t be a major contributor here. We’ve already seen it happen.

I agree with Dasher to an extent, we have infantalized an entire generation claiming everyone deserves a second chance, but playing football is a privilege, and there are certain crimes that I think preclude some from second chances from said privilege. Not being in jail is a second chance for many for the crimes they commit. But in all honestly it's truly a case by case basis. You see some super talented individuals continue to get far too much leeway because their physical talent. We all want SU to win, but to sacrifice morals isn't a cost worth paying.

All that said I give Fran a lot of leeway in who he determines deserves a second chance based on him being a man true to his word, but this blanket belief everyone deserves a second chance at football which is a privilege; I wholeheartedly disagree with that sentiment.

Depends on the offense. I believe in a safe environment for the students that are attending Syracuse. Really. I have very little sympathy for people who steal. Or assault others.
I remember Alton Robinson coming in with a checkered past and he was exactly what the team needed. Hoping this is a similar situation. However, I agree, if this dude starts up with similar shenanigans then there is no room at the inn.
