Depends on the offense. I believe in a safe environment for the students that are attending Syracuse. Really. I have very little sympathy for people who steal. Or assault others.

Syracuse and any other school isnt going to allow a kid into school that they consider a threat.

ASU knew they weren't changing Junior O. by the Spring semester his first year, and still bent over backwards to retain him.

Sometimes the schools (or at least the athletic departments) just don't care. I believe Fran does.

Sometimes you need to meet and talk to a troubled kid to get a feel if the kid made a mistake and is remorseful or if he's just trouble .... l think Fran has a good feel for kids he thinks he can help.

I agree with Dasher to an extent, we have infantalized an entire generation claiming everyone deserves a second chance, but playing football is a privilege, and there are certain crimes that I think preclude some from second chances from said privilege. Not being in jail is a second chance for many for the crimes they commit. But in all honestly it's truly a case by case basis. You see some super talented individuals continue to get far too much leeway because their physical talent. We all want SU to win, but to sacrifice morals isn't a cost worth paying.

All that said I give Fran a lot of leeway in who he determines deserves a second chance based on him being a man true to his word, but this blanket belief everyone deserves a second chance at football which is a privilege; I wholeheartedly disagree with that sentiment.

I don’t disagree - I just think not rooting for someone because they made a bad decision once is rough. Details matter for sure - some offenses are in the “you don’t get to play football anymore” bucket.

My default is to grant grace and allow a kid second chances - but with the understanding they are on the straight and narrow from them on. I’ll root for them 100% and root especially for them to stay out of trouble. Feel like this is how Fran rolls too

Yeah, agreed on that. Seemed like a blanket “all mistakes are unforgivable” is a tough row to hoe.

I'm so glad we gave Lequint a second chance.

Not because he was a great player for SU, but because he is a great person that made a mistake, learned from it and became a leader on the team.

It appears most are willing to give a second chance but the level of the infraction is what you are going back and forth on.
At the end of the day it’s HCFB choice and regardless if you like or want to root for said kid it’s up to you.
I feel a little more lenient than some when it involves under 20 and even some early 20s. Some will pan out some won’t and Fran has to figure that out

20 years ago I cared a lot more about the character of student athletes that would be carrying around a Syracuse degree for the rest of their lives. Now, I want the best minor league professional team we can put on the field this year. With limits, of course, not rooting for some R'ist or pedo. But these guys aren't Syracuse students at this point any more than any pro athlete truly represents the city they play for. Change the system to attach the athletes to be students again and it could change. For now I want to watch the team we hired for the year win.

Even though Lampkin really didn't live up to the 44, I was really happy when it was granted to him and the AD basically told DC to kick rocks by doing it. I'm looking forward to when it's reintroduced on the FB side and the same thing happens to Konrad.
