Class of 2023 WR Johntay Cook (TX) TRANSFERRING TO SYRACUSE (5/1/25)

It’s been 2 full years since Cook has made an impact on the field. Expecting him to be a star is a lot. We have no idea what he has done off the field as far as getting better since HS he’s basically been a non-factor after 2 seasons in college. I think it would be wise to expect the least and hope for the best. At least that’s my POV.
I agree. It's all up to him. If he puts in the work he has the God given talent to do well.

Also, he probably is on a very short leash. One semester at a time, one week or one day at a time might be more accurate. This will probably be his last opportunity at a legit P4 program.

I do think given his natural ability that actually putting the work in and doing what Fran asks would put him in a pretty good spot to make a difference on the field. No denying his raw athletic ability but it's up to him to stay on the straight and narrow.

100% he is on a choke collar.

I'll also add that this isn't just some raw athlete rated highly because of "measureables." He's a guy with a polished skill set AND the speed / elusiveness to get open, who produced despite being down the depth chart on a loaded Texas team with good WRs playing ahead of him.

With a quality QB slinging it, Cook is a lot closer to being able to do an AET-esque jump than a guy hoping to put it all together.

Of course, he has to walk the straight and narrow -- that's totally up to him. And if he can't or doesn't, then he won't be here long. But if he does, and he buys into what Fran Brown will demand, then he's going to thrive.

And he doesn't even have to be the guy -- that's the thing. We have a good group of experienced WRs, nothing will be handed to him.

Agreed. He just needs to do his part, if he can establish himself as a viable threat on the field,it will be great for the entire offense

Anyone have any idea where he was this past semester? Did he stay at Washington after getting kicked off the football team in 48 hours? Also, when do summer classes start? I think if he makes it through the first week of summer conditioning, he should be good.

Academics... lol. But, seriously, I have no idea how this all works with the portal. Crazy.

Just curious, does it cause some kind of issue?

No. But they are no longer a prospect being recruited. They are a player enrolled at SU and competing with the team.

Plus I'm sure the admins wouldn't mind you creating threads on the football forum discussing the players which creates more traffic on the football forum. ;)

Are you saying there are football fans that don’t also look at all the threads in the football recruiting forum as well?!?! What do they do with all of their time?
