Class of 2026 WR Nau'jour “Toosii” Grainger

I’m not sure what the reference is here. Are you talking about the allegations that Campbell would pay Miami players for TDs and the like? That can all be handled differently under NIL now if we wanted.

You all really just need to go and listen to his music, this (and an earlier reference to Death Row Records, I think it was in this thread) comes off sounding very dated at best. Campbell hasn’t had a song chart in almost 25 years lol.

I’m not a music expert by any means but Toosii is really a smooth operator. Since he announced I’ve been listening to his music daily and I love it. Great lyrics and vocals to go with his social media savvy. I’ve posted a couple times in this thread already because I’m hoping we can all embrace and promote this guy for celebrating our team and giving us a new way to be relevant to young people.

Agreed. So much needless "clutching of pearls", angst, and haterade over a clear win/win situation, IMO.
This is "different", new, unorthodox, and frankly a once-in-a-lifetime circumstance on his and the program's part.
I mean, how many chart-topping rappers, who have athletic ability and desire to play for their "home town" squad, emerge out of Syracuse NY? Happens every day, amirite?
Let's embrace this...it's a good thing. JMHO

This final quote by him kinda says it all, assuming this goes well.

“I understand the business side of things,” Grainger said during his podcast appearance. “The business side of things is, well, recruiting me you get a donor because I become an alum and when I become an alum, I’m an investor into the school. I got the money to invest now."
Toosii is a multimillionaire and double-platinum musician with "4.6 million followers on Instagram — Syracuse football has 139,000." He is talking about being an investor in the school.

I wonder if there is any way to leverage Toosii's fame into brand recognition for the football program? This was never about Toosii's potential as a player. We really don't have to squint too hard to see the value in what Fran is trying to do.

Sure, but not by a school that has a hard time spelling some names on retirement jerseys.

Toosii will probably be Tootsie.

I dont have any issue with this. If he can play? Awesome. I hope he can be at least a viable depth guy. But you realize that payouts are based on who watches and even who plays the video games? All the attention is good attention.

Let’s face it, if Toosil could have played QB for us after Angeli got hurt, we might have been better. Ok, slight exaggeration, but him coming here is great for our program. He isn’t going to play, it’s like those dudes who pay $10K to go to a rock fantasy camp and jam with Joe Perry and Rick Nielsen, or whomever. He will bring us a lot of social media attention and bring some $$$. Sounds great to me

Our post announcing Toosii’s commitment blew up, generating 715K likes, 12K comments, 31K reposts, and 258K shares. This level of engagement shows massive interest and proves how our brand is expanding, creating real value for the program.Increased exposure strengthens the program’s brand, attracts interest from other markets for third-party NIL opportunities, and could encourage additional donor investment. connections and influence could provide unique opportunities for our players, and every time we feature him, there’s potential for content to go viral. His commitment already put our program in the spotlight like never before.Combined with 5-star signee Calvin Russell and a superstar head coach who knows how to keep us in the news, our program is positioned for unprecedented visibility, growth, and national attention.

This happened in Syracuse. He lived around the midland area in the old Boot camp gang territory post RICO act. They have since formed an alliance with the Bricks near by. I can only imagine him with teammates and some young hitter looking to make a name for himself. I’m sure he wants nothing to do with that life, but it has a long memory.

We definitely need positive exposure for our program. Losing 70-7 to ND and our complete ineptitude the last 8 games generated a ton of negative exposure.

Crazy story. You have to appreciate this guy after listening to this.

I might have missed it, but did the university formally announce Toosi as joining the team?
As a walk-on or ?

Isn't it a rule now that anyone who participates on the team (up to the 105 limit) has to be on scholarship?
No. There is no longer a scholarship limit though. It’s strictly a roster limit and scholarship player/PWO/Walkon are meaningless terms when talking about rosters. You can give 105 scholarships, 0 scholarships or anywhere in between.

Right but I believe if you go be scholarships out over the old 85 cap that money must be deducted from the 20M NIL fund

That is correct up to the first $2MM
