Class of 2026 WR Nau'jour “Toosii” Grainger

Now all we need to do is pry BigXthaplug from Texas' grasp...
American Football Texas GIF by Graduation

Edit: I suppose this would be his HUDL highlights.

Best pass I have seen in a few months

Can he fair catch a punt? We had a guy like that once. His job was to fair catch punts, because apparently, we had no other guys on the team that could reliably catch a punt. Anyone else remember that? It was embarrassing.

He also took a pron star to his Senior prom.

Steve “Ritchy” Rene?

I've thought about this more and I like the move from a brand building perspective. Beats wasting a walk on or end of bench roster spot on a nepo baby (no offense Noah, that spot is well worth it but this is a different approach). Football is supposed to be fun and entertainment. A documentary / video series on him trying to make the roster? Sign me up. He's also a pretty inspiring speaker and I'm sure has a lot of life lessons for other kids on the roster from some of the videos I've been watching of him. And then there's the cool factor -- making Syracuse cool to high school recruits. It all fits together.

As others have said, if he plays that means we've either really really screwed up developing other guys or he has somehow become the craziest story in college football sports, which helps the brand point above. I view Toosii more as a player coach who can help show other young 17/18/19 year olds the work and sacrifices they need to make. He's putting aside a lucrative career to pursue his dream. It's a fun uplifting story. And for a day, we got to talk about this vs. solely firing coaches.

This is nothing more than a publicity stunt.
My take on this.

I had to "phone a friend" - my son. I'm 58 years old, he is 16. I had never heard of this "Toosii" so I texted my son, because I am too lazy to walk upstairs. It went like this. "Do you know who Toosi is?" "The rapper?" "Yes I think so." "Is he dead?" Shortly thereafter I got confirmation that the story was indeed legit based on my son's crack research.

The funny thing is that my son's walls are covered with small "posters" of album covers from rappers and such. But when we get into the car, his Spotify is mostly 70's. He loves King Crimson's first album.

And fwiw I think it's a curve-ball move, 100% Fran, and will be fun to watch.

I think starting Filardi at Notre Dame after the UNC debacle was one of the "craziest" stories in college football and yet did not end up helping the brand very much at all.

Lol the team could run on to the field with one of his songs, while he's on the mic.

And to think we thought sprints after UConn was attention getting.

Maybe he can perform during halftimes.

But seriously, there's no downside to this in my eyes and I love the attention it brings to the program.
Downside is that even though he likely will not receive a scholarship there is no longer an NCAA mandated 85 scholarship limit. It is now a roster limit of 105 and he counts against that taking away the opportunity for a real high school football player to be part of the team at Syracuse.

Pure publicity stunt and the “best recruiter in college football “ shouldn’t have to stoop to that level,

Thia is fair, but did we have nearly this much controversy over Noah Lobdell, who is taking away a spot on a team with significantly less roster spots.

His post has over a half a million likes and 10 thousand comments. This definitely makes Syracuse a bigger brand maybe having some content with him on a podcast will help as well. What ever it takes to build a great brand and get more revenue into the program to get even better coaches and talent.

Not every recruit enrolls in the Spring.

If he participates in Spring Ball and doesn't make the cut, he's gone by August and doesn't take a spot away from anyone.
How does walk ons work now with the new 105 person roster ? It would be crazy for him to be on scholarship and take a spot away from a transfer or High school recruit like “Leaks”.

I’ll say looking at his workout videos, if he sees real game time we will be in serious trouble.
With that being said there is really no downside. Tons of scholarship players never see the field in real game time. So why not have one with serious clout and a huge fan base.
I mean we let Joe Filardi play for us this year so why not this guy?

105 player cap. Some players can get partial scholarships, supplemented by House settlement money.

UNC is fully funding all 105. I think Wildhack wants to hold the line at 85, split 105 ways. We'll see.

You want to be competitive, you can't hold back money like Steinbrenner anymore.
