WR's

How do you know they can get off the line and are matchup problems? They don't play. They might have measurable a but after 2 years of practices and the coaches don't put them on the field means something. At least in the system and with the playbook under Shafer.
Under a a very good D coach. Who knows but im glad they are getting a fresh start.

The same coaches who started Drew Allen over Hunt 3 years ago and a walk-on Offensive Lineman this year. At least this new offense will offer them an opportunity for more targets than they would've received last year. I'm hoping one of those guys surprises us this season.

And both Allen and the walkon earned their jobs in practice even if they then lost them.

A clean slate is great unless you are a player who doesn't practice hard, runs shxtty routes, or gets exposed when competing vs D1 players.

If they didn't break out with our awful WR corps the past 2 years I'm not holding my breath for any magic turnarounds this fall.

We need to add some weapons on NSD.

I'm starting to think they just aren't good enough

If that's the case, then this staff needs to bring in WR help immediately. Hopefully that will be the case once the dead period is over. Right now unless Carl Jones is being recruited as a WR and not DB, then we'll see the same group running out there as last year.

I watched 4 or 5 Bowling Green games this year. Lots of short quick passes. WR screens and slants. Then they go over the top. Scheme gets guys open. Our WR’s were running behind coverage a number of times this season but we don’t deliver the football. Syracuse WR’s are more than capable of running the primary BG offense, which also requires smarts and the ability to block.

We obviously lack a true deep threat but that isn’t a guy who just out runs everybody, it’s a physically imposing guy who can outrun everybody. BG’s star wideout is a kid who was a 5 star WR headed to play for Ohio State before some legal trouble sent him to Bowling Green.
Good post. Dino runs some interesting routes in the quick game and our guys will be able to run them. Phillips will probably be moved to the slot and Womack would be my bet as a pleasant surprise as a deep threat.

We will have to seriously upgrade our receivers to run this offense at full potential.

They are recruiting more than one WR at the moment. I'd be shocked if we didn't sign one or two in addition to S. Palmer.

Definitely expect a few in... I still don't think the staff keeps Palmer though. Hasn't set up an OV yet, writing's on the wall.

Enoicy and Custis both give us imposing WR's with big hands that could attack the middle, which I haven't seen SU do since Nassib.

Then again that may not be a part of Baber's offense.

Could be. Didn't want to say it out loud ;)

Van Chew stunk his first two years under Greg Robinson. Then had almost 80 catches his final two years with Marrone.

Van Chew got playing time in every game and scored a TD as a true freshman... He might not have produced big numbers but the talent was evident.

He had 10 catches his first two years. Custis scored a touchdown too. And has 5 less catches. All I'm saying is just because he didn't play doesn't mean he's a bust or doesn't have talent. The number of WR's this new offense uses is going to increase the likelihood he gets more playing time. Then we'll see if he's good or not.

Or it could be determined that they were selected by a coaching staff who made a mistake in doing so

The point was how does anyone know he can do this or that since he didn't play. At least their first 2 seasons coaches didn't see enough to warrant PT in their offense.

The starting offensive line the last 2 years was terrible, either bad coaching, recruiting, or a combination of both. That doesn't speak to a group of coaches who knew what they were doing, so we really have no idea what Custis, and Enoicy are capable of.
